I haven't been on here in a long time. I got very sick in the fall. Severe pain out of the blue and passed out one night and woke up on my bathroom floor. I'm stubborn as hell and went to the Dr. 3 days later, because you know, I was feeling a little better day by day so why bother going?? [emoji848] I was admitted to the hospital for several days with a severe infection and dx with diverticulitis. Thankfully days of IV antibiotics got me on the right track...if not I was looking at surgery to remove a section of my colon. Then I had a never ending UTI which is very unusual for a male. Turns out I had 3 different bacteria in my system, 2 of which could only be picked up from a hospital setting. More antibiotics and a trip to an infectious disese specialist and roughly half a year later I'm finally cured!

I've been able to maintain my weight pretty well but was disappointed to postpone my TT that was scheduled for last fall. I know, I know, my health and recovery from the other stuff was way more important. And, there is a reason for everything!

I'm thrilled to finally be 30 days out from my TT surgery on 8/21. Truly can't wait for this milestone on my journey to be complete! [emoji847] Maybe I'll work up the guts to post before and after pics. 🤷‍♂️

In any event, I shut the world out for a while so it's good to be back to my nerdy, tattooed, quirky self!20190628_150516.jpeg 20190707_120214.jpeg 20190718_144135.jpeg 20181203_132841.jpeg 20181119_082420.jpeg 1511707645089001(1).jpeg

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I am new here, having surgery on the 31st July. 6th day of my liver shrinking diet. Did you have any other symptoms adding up to the diverticulitis? I am super stubborn too and I've been reading up on what's normal, what's not, because I know I'm liable to think something is normal and it not be. Good to meet you :D

Thank you. No symptoms at all and never had it prior. One minute everything was fine and the next the worst pain I ever felt.

@336Mike So glad you're back here posting with us. Now never go away again dude!!! You look AHHHHH-may-zing!!! Congrats on all your hard work. I'm so sorry to hear about your medical issues. It's easy to get down and isolate when you have to deal with feeling poorly and healing plus all the doc visits/hospitals etc. :( So glad your TT surgery is back on and SO close! Wooot! Can't wait to follow your journey hon! BTW, we're pretty fond of your geeky tattooed self. :)

Well, I am new to the site, so I have not enjoyed your posts before. Thank you for sharing your story.

So happy for you and to see yet another person who looks amazing. You look happy, healthy and handsome.

It is so good to post that you ignored some significant, serious symptoms for a few days. I think for people that have been obese, we tend to do that. I don't know about you, but I would go to the Dr. with a problem and pretty much would get: "could be due to your excess weight" So I just stopped going.

My friends or family have forced me, even tricked me, into going to the Dr. or emergency room because I am stubborn, always think it will get better on its own. I have learned my lesson, sounds like you have too!

Best of luck with staying healthy!!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
