Your NO-NO list

Recommended Posts

So.. I have a few personal friends that I talk to on a regular basis who've had the lap band done. After speaking with them about what are things they can or can't eat they each said totally different things. For instance, one person said she could eat rice and the other person said there was no way in heck she could eat anything with rice. One eats bread and the other cannot eat bread. One drinks cokes (she shakes them up to get rid of the carbonation as much as possible) and the other one says it didn't work for her.

I'm curious, what are the things you can absolutely not eat. And, I'm not talking about what your doctor told you to not eat, because my friends doctor told her to not eat bread and she eats it and is fine and has lost over 100 pounds so far...

So, what is your individual no no list.. Even if you see that somebody else has posted it, please post it.

Also, I did a search for a thread like this and couldn't find one, so I apologize if there is an older thread similiar and my "search" abilities suck. Please still post your answers below.

Thanks!! ;)

Doughy breads & crunchy broccoli are my "no nos".

The only thing that is a big NO for me is glazed donuts. I eat maybe 2 bites and they feel like they grow to the size of a dozen.....eeeeccchhh.....never again!!!

Everything else with caution and in moderation has been fine. Only PB's I have had other than the damnable donuts have been from slipping into old eating habits-forgetting to chew small bites!!!

Tortillas and bread. And let me tell you, and since I am Mex-American we eat alot of tortillas, or in my case used to eat. I have tried many times and always fail. Man, do I miss a good freshly homemade flour tortilla. Everytime I make them, I just salivate at my family enjoying them.

So far, I don't have any. I have had 1 PB and it was on a roll (I normally avoid bread, but splurged).

Since then, I've eaten bread again and have had no problems. I keep thinking I need to be tighter since I don't have any problem foods.

Maybe I'm just lucky. Not sure.

Wow, this is a great list so far. And I know what you mean about the tortilla's.. ooh man, that sucks! I like Pita bread.... I would die if I couldn't have pita bread, but, I'd have to get over it..

Cottage cheese?? wow, wouldn't expect that one...

And tuna? I figured most tuna is already pretty shredded... totally sucks...

Roast beef and chicken breast don't like me at all. If I convert the chicken to chicken salad (grind it up in my mini-chopper with salad dressing....also do the same with roast), it goes down all right.

I don't know about rice or Pasta or breads because I haven't put even one bite of any of them in my mouth since a month before surgery......don't need the carbs and I'm scared of the triggers. :omg: I have eaten a few crispy tortillas that went down all right with salsa (it's hard giving that up in Texas!).

My food no no list changes day by day and fill to fill. Right now:

chicken breast, rice (as of the last time I tried), grits, scrambled eggs

Today I couldn't eat a piece of toast where as Sunday I could.

I've yet to find a food I can't eat as long as I take my time and listen to my body when I eat it.

The only food that I have PBed on more than once was potato chips - I don't care for them too much so they're a few & far between thing, but the last two times I've tried to eat them I've had problems just 1 or 2 chips in. So they're on my "no" list (because it doesn't bother me to get rid of them), even though I've been able to eat them without problems.

Other than that, I just have foods that I know will be uncomfortable, but don't really cause a problem. Slimy foods such as sliced strawberries, bananas hurt me. eggs hurt me, regardless of how they're cooked (over-hard is my best bet). Applesauce hurts me. Etc.

Wow applesauce thats a real suprise. I have only really had any trouble with tortillas and really dry chicken. I stay away from soda totally and drinks with calories in it. But I can eat mostly anything else if I wanted.

CoolChrystal....I live an hour out of the metroplex so don't go to my surgeon's support groups. I have met up a couple of times, though, with some other members of Bariatric Eating - Protein, Vitamins, Gastric Bypass & Lap Band Info, Post-op recipes, and Help. in Plano and Grand Prairie and Richardson. Some of us are banded, some are bypass but we are all eating and living by the gastric bypass foodplan and all have been very successful and stayed healthy. You're cordially invited to visit/join the BElivers' board any time.......good group!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
