How long did it take everyone to pee after surgery? I pee'd once right after surgery but now I'm having a hard time peeing. Dehydration maybe? I've managed 9 oz of Water since 12. I know I need more but ugh. And the left side of my body hurts so bad but honestly, this wasn't near as scary as I thought it would be.

Not sure how much the male/female thing makes a difference when it comes to urination but I didn't pee for two days after, but then the night of that 2nd day, mannnn, I was up every couple of hours having to go. Same thing the next night. I think it's starting to balance out now that all of the IV fluids are out....I hope anyway.

Yes. I am 2 weeks post op. Before surgery I loved sugar free Water flavorings. Now I hate all of them. I'm getting my Water in with Decaf herbal teas with a tiny bit of sweetener by putting the tea bag with a couple ice cubes in my water bottle to make ice tea. I was never a big herbal tea drinker before. Now I can't get enough.

I'm going to have to try the tea thing I guess, I am finding the same thing, which is weird since I already had a VSG and just had a revision but I am finding Mio (which I couldn't live without before) very sweet and it almost seems like it's hurting my stomach. I suppose it is possible that since I am bypasseed now that the Sucralose is having a negative effect. Oh well, I'll try some tea and see how that goes down.

Had surgery yesterday and it went great. I haven’t had really any pain nor gas issues but had two times when the nausea was awful. Last night they gave me a couple of medications for it because zofran didn’t work on its own. Thankfully I didn’t throw up. Been waking the halls a lot. Today I got a Protein Shake and it literally took me all day to sip. Lol. I’ve also had ice Water, a couple of bites of yogurt and a few sips of Tomato Soup. Overall feeling good. Only time I feel icky is when I take too many sips...I get a heavy feeling like I have to burp. Going on my walks I saw someone else with a Protein shake... I want to say hi but don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy. Lol I should be released tomorrow...my Dr is on the conservative side and likes to keep people 2 nights.

Good luck to everyone going tomorrow!

That's awesome that you're doing so well...prayers for continued healing :)

Hi Everyone,

my name is Rachel. I am 30 and 5’9 and having the sleeve on June 25th, insurance just approved it today-one week out! I would love to hear people’s experiences that have had surgery this month! When I started my journey I was 290, now I am 267 while on the pre op liquid diet. Everyone says this diet isn’t bad after a few days but I can’t stand it, I have never cheated on this diet even though I hate it lol

Welcome Rachel and best of luck to you the rest of the way. I haven't started my 2 week diet yet but I have a feeling that I'll pretty much hate it as well lol :)

Relatable too. I was going every few hours. I figured the IV was finally catching up to me.

It took until day two for me to pass gas. It took a week for a bowel movement. I had to take laxatives daily and ended up using a suppository. I had a lot of hip pain due to arthritis and was taking oxcy for pain. They think that’s what slowed my bowel movements. Since then, I’ve been taking Colace daily, as recommended by my doctor for at least another week — to make sure everything is “flowing” okay.

Thank you for your honesty. I just did a suppository so hopefully things will get moving a little. I'm just ready to go home to my own bed and my own toilet lol

Sadly, I ate dinner too quickly yesterday. Was told by doc I could eat salmon and broccoli as part of my purées diet, just chew well. I had 2 oz. salmon and 4 small broccoli crowns. I chewed really well (30-40 times per bite). But, I must have gone too quickly or maybe that was too much food. It was awful, painful and I nearly vomited. Lesson learned. 😩🥴🤢

I'm 12 days out and find that I'm dying for more savory flavors. It feels like so many of my liquids are sweet.

Can you do broth or strained cream Soup at all? Low fat cream of chicken and broth helped me through.

I was able to pass gas about 2 days after surgery but didn't have a bowel movement for 6 days. Right now I am using Miralax to prevent Constipation

I was passing gas I think on day 2. As for a poo.... FINALLY, just this morning, day 5, after drinking a Protein Shake, I thought I was about to have something explosive but only dropped a little nugget. LMAO I'll take it as a win though, progress is progress. I'd like to think that since I haven't eaten anything for a few weeks....that nugget was pure fat being expelled. 😂

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
