No pain coming out of anesthesia...

Recommended Posts

I thought I would just pop this thread in for those of you not yet banded. I've read several cases where people woke up in pain. They were given meds and it went away. I had absolutely no pain. I just woke myself up coughing after they took the airway out. I had absolutly no pain. I didn't hurt until the next day. NWWLS gives Rx's for liquid hydrocodon. That isn't quite at strong as some others, but the liquid part really works best.

This isn't to brag or anything, it is just to assure those that haven't gone through the surgery yet there isn't always immediate pain and if there is, you won't have to deal with it for long.

This is a scarey process and we need all the encouragement we can get to go though with it. As everyone I've read before me has said...It was worth it and I would do it again...even though I'm only 11 days out.

Not hungry yet. That has me a little concerned.

Take care.

Kandi - I think it's great of you to share this - I don't think it's bragging. It's good to know that it IS possible. And you know - even amongst the pain that I HAVE had, I WOULD do this all over again if given the choice!

Oh, wow - I just noticed! You and I have almost the exact same stats! I was 233 and I want to be 130.

Great OP!

I wasn't really in pain, either. Just a little sore. The anesthesiologist told me before surgery to let the nurses know if I felt the least bit of pain -- to be a big baby about it and they would give me medication. He said the same thing about nausea. I didn't have to ask for any pain meds but I did feel the least twinge of nausea and I told the nurse and that it was it -- I think she put something in my IV and I felt fine. I also took the prescription Tylenol like clockwork for the next few days to stay ahead of the pain and that helped a lot. I was able to get comfortable in my recliner with a pillow over my belly and feel no pain or discomfort at all until I got up. Even then, it was temporary and bearable. I slept in my bed with a body pillow helping to support my belly. It hurt a little to turn over but then I could get comfortable enough to sleep again.

All in all, it was much less pain and discomfort than I expected and it passed more quickly, too. Here I am, two weeks and a day post surgery and it's easy to forget that I had it!

I was banded on Wednesday, November 14th. The Day of surgery is a blur, and that night was rough! Unfortunately I am allergic to most pain killers, so I just grin and bear it. Today I feel pretty good! Only hurts to laugh or cough! But, I can't wait to start loosing weight and being me again........

I woke up in excruciating pain and was crying and saying to my sister why did I do this, why wasn't I strong enough to diet blah blah blah... as soon as the pain killers hit all was okay... such a wous! :) That said, after a couple of days in hospital things were great and I'm breezing through it now. :whoo: Don't know how I'll be when I start eating normal food or after my first fill... I just take it a day at a time.

Thanks to each of you who've posted. I'm to be banded in 3 days. It's comforting to hear your stories.

Thanks friends!

The feeling I had wasn't pain, but it was definately a tight feeling in my chest that was a little uncomfortable but bearable. I asked for pain meds more because I was afraid of any pain kicking in lol.

:)....I did....now let the losing begin.

I too did not have any pain. I was waiting for the pain to come so like a dummy I hit the morphine button. But I was doing it in anticipation of pain....what an idiot. I did not need any pain medication and my prescription is still sitting here unfilled. I am sore!!!! But NO shoulder pain either. Yippie!!!!!Let the weight loss begin. Okay the bad side just for those non believers...I have abdominal gas and diarrehea....that's all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
