Lap-Band in Upstate NY

Has anyone had any experience with any MDs in Rochester NY? I am scheduled for their information session with Dr. O'Malley and Dr. Moss. Any experience or suggestions?

I am really hoping that insurance covers the lapband. I cannot afford it out of pocket. I am at the 40 BMI but I don't have any other issues, yet. I do have back, hip and joint pain but nothing that is arthritis. My BP and cholesterol levels are fine. I have no diabetes issues either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi All I hope everyone is doing well.

Gilta-goods news on the pre-op testing...that was the easiest thing to go thru!! And don't feel odd-ball out because you are using Highland. It'll be good to have different options for all those that come here... even if I hate highland!! But I will support you in any way!!

Teri-Welcome!! I was banded by Dr D, April 8th. I have stalled a bit on my weight loss until be find a good restriction, however I have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks and have lost 3 pounds!! I always lose on vacation.... I do a lot of scuba diving!!

How is Barb and Tang?????

Heather.

Thanks for asking. I am doing pretty good. I found a DR more local to me but will wait till Oct, my three month post op to start with him. Ins is covered till then. Good luck to everyone!

I'm within 4 pounds of my goal weight (preop) and I see the dr again in 8 days... I can do this! I'm so committed... unless they commit me to the psych ward with all the family drama. Anyone have suggestions to loose 4 pounds in 8 days? I'm thinking of doing an intestinal flush... not sure. I have absolutely gotta make that 8 days.

good to see activity here.

Dr. Cerabona does some office hours in Duchess, I think. I can't gush enough about him and his practice--the insurance folks are AMAZINGLY helpful, the dieticians are great, the PA is super-responsive, and their pre-op info and testing is so much more thorough than the other docs I saw. Definitely worth the trip, IMHO--hell, I flew from los angeles!

I finally got to see dr Heneghan... i absolutely know I've made the right choices.

We totally agreed that the band is correct for me. He's impressed that they'll be discussing me already. I've got 3 whole pounds to loose in the next week. So he's pretty sure that I can do it..> I can do it! It's nice that he has confidence in me. :) I have the psych appt and the "8 week weigh in" next wednesday. I am doing the sleep study tonight. I'm not sure how well I'll sleep tonight. But i'm so excited.

Hi All,

Sorry I have been MIA. I am trying to get everything ready. My surgery is only 2 days away!! I start liquid tomorrow am. I won't find out until tomorrow afternoon what time my surgery is. I found out I have to stay overnight, which will be ok.

During my pre-op eval, I gained. I was not happy about that. I am sure I will lose it tomorrow since I can only have clear liquids.

I will let everyone know how it goes either sat or sun. It just depends on how I feel and if I remember.

Good luck all.

Gilta

Good luck Friday (and on your liquid diet). I'm hoping to be in soon too.

Teri

Good Luck!!! You'll just love the 'pre-flush' before hand.... ya know, the stuff they make you take to clean the colon!! Don't plan on leaving the house!!!

Let us know as soon as you're home if you're ok!

Will do! I had not heard about the "colon" cleanse, so we shall see.

Gilta

LOL oh you so know about it now! I knew about that b/c when my mom had her surgery I said i'd do it with her (you know, eating...or rather drinking....everything the same)....and boy was that interesting. Thank god we have 2 bathrooms.....

You've already had your surgery by now...can't wait to hear how it went for you!

I've been MIA because I have no computer at the moment. It's frustrating to say the least, especially since I LIVE on my e-mail. So it will be occasional pop-ups on here until I get my own computer working again.

Since my last time on here, I had my sleep study (oh the fun that was) and I have to go for bloodwork tomorrow morning. I only have a few things left:

Sleep Study results: 8/25

Nutrition app.: 8/28 (8am)

2nd visit w/ DrD: 8/28 (9:30am)

and IF i need a second night at the sleep study than that will be also on 8/28 in the evening.

So really not much before I can turn in paperwork (oh yes I know i need my letter from my PCP, but she cant' write it until I get all the other stuff done)....

I've been REALLY frustrated wtih my diet. I was losing pretty well...down almost 10 of the 20 he requires before he'll do the surgery...now I know he'll schedule it if you are close...but i gained it all back! I KNOW I CAN DO THIS! I'm just feeling let down wtih myself. I need to stay away from fast food. I need to stay away from bread. Let me rephrase...i WILL stay away from fast food and i WILL stay away from bread! Send me some goodluck vibes everyone...i need them!

How is everyone else doing? H-how many fills have you had? Congrats on losing 3 on vacation! Nice....

oh! Hi to all the newbies (well newbies since i've been away that is)!!!

Hi All,

I had my surgery on Friday. Luckly no colon cleanse! I have heard that my come with the liquid phase I am in now. Liquid in, liquid out.

My surgery took a bit longer due to previous abdomnical surgery. I was in surgery for 3 hours instead of the planned 2 hours.

I went in at 7:30am and woke up in my room about 3pm. I was up and walking by 3:30pm. I had pain in my back and shoulder. I had my barium swallow and was told all is well. The MD informed me he put in 2 cc's into my band. He said he has some patients who say they don't ever need a fill. We shall see.

I am having a bit of a hard time getting all the protein and liquids they want me to. Right now I can do about 20 oz and they want 40. I am sure with time I will get there. The only pain I have is at my port site (more of pulling when I get up) and the pain in my shoulder/back. I hear that is from the gas.

I am still sleeping in a recliner because I cannot lay down flat yet.

Hope all is well with the previous banders and welcome the newbies. Barbie you are on your way.

Gilta

Glad your surgery went well. My dr also sends you home with a small fill. I'm glad for that. I need all the help I can get.

Good luck with your liquids. I'm hoping to experience that real soon.

HI Barbie. Hope you get your PC problems worked out real fast.

Teri

Gilta, glad you're surgery went ok!! The gas pains will pass but they take a week. Gas-x does help a little. I didn't have any fill in my band after surgery. He did a 3cc fill 6 weeks later and then I got a 2.5cc 6 weeks after that. So I have 5.5cc in my 14cc band. I'm surprised they are allowing you protien already!! I was on clear liquids for 10 days after.... really hungry by then!! I was able to sleep on my stomach about 3 days after surgery, so hopefully you'll be sleeping in bed soon.

Barbie, good to hear from you too!! No PC?? ACK!! As for losing and gain, get with it sista! I know you can do this and yes, he will schedule before you lose all 20. I had only lost 16 and he scheduled. You will lose the rest going on the 5 days pre-op diet and then the wonderful colon cleanse!! *flush*

Take care everyone.

hi to all!

i'm just starting the decision making process....at 38,i have yo-yo dieted my self up to 250lbs @ 5'1! i dont have the co-mordities YET, that go along w/obesity, but i feel/know i am commiting a long drawn out suicide, being sooo heavy!!! and i'm not setting a very good life example for my daughters, who are overweight as well @ 12 & i know its my fault!!! so its TIME to take ACTION!!! i'm gonna sch.d a seminar date after this post...and have already requested the guidelines from bcbs.....i guess i'm fearful of my md (he's not too impressed w/bariatric anything....tooo risky...but he gave me diet pills!!! as if....) and the documentation....i dont have dates of all the times i started atkins, slimfast, southbeach, the cabbage soup diet & the list goes on & on!!! i wasnt seeing my dr every time i did something like this....do i write the letter or does my md?? also.....i smoke...and i want to quit!!! but ya know whats stopping me....thats right...i'm afraid i'll gain more wgt!!!! i'm hoping that going to the seminar will help me understand more.....do the nutritionists help mom to figure out how to meal plan for the whole family? i know that i need to get myself on track, but i feel like i have also de-railed 3 other people along the way w/my poor choices (my husband just had to order new uniforms for work, went up a pant & shirt size!, but he is still slender)! i just want to get started!!! my dogs are even getting fat!!!
