I ate 1/4 cup. That is the size my team has me starting with. It satisfied me.

Same here...1/4 cup is where I am to start.

Just popping on to say hi and see how all us January post-ops are doing?

I have been back to work since 2 weeks after and last week was the first time in ages I worked out 5 days.
I had tried a couple of times to go to the gym more than 2 days a week, but OMG by the end of the day, I was entirely too tired to go to the gym and wound up in bed by 8. LOL I am still pretty beat at the end of the day, but I am pushing through it. Honestly, Saturday at the gym with my son was probably the best workout I had in months. I had energy and felt really good. It made me wish my gym was closer to my house. I belong to a planet fitness that is on my way home from work. I should just suck it up and go anyway even if it is out of the way on the weekends.

So my eating is going OK, but I have discovered "the foamies" a few times which was NOT fun. At my appointment last week, my Dr. told me to stay eating soft right now and each week try a new food a little tougher. Well last night I decided on steak and I realized it is NOT worth it to have to chew so much for that. I will skip on steak until further down the road. There are plenty of other foods I can enjoy.

I am hoping to loose at least 11 more pounds before the 23rd. That would give me 40 pounds down since surgery.....and I haven't seen my daughter since the day before surgery and would love for her to come home on spring break and just be in shock!

The hubby is being super supportive still which is great. When he is off the road and cooking, he is constantly asking if I can eat what he has in mind for dinner. It makes it nice.

Hi there! Glad to hear an update from you. I too have had some incidents w/ the foamies- ugh- mostly because I try something I am not ready for yet and cant digest it or I eat too fast or don't chew enough. I did have a sliver of steak and chewed it 1000 times and that went okay. But it was the smallest taste.....

Last week I noticed I was eating too much Avocado mash and cheese and my fats were too high and then I saw my carbs creeping up too high and now I am at a stand still with losses. So back to basics- Protein and maybe veggies if i can manage it. But around 2 ounces of any protein and I am full, which is frustrating but i guess normal. I had to add back in a shake/protein Water too which sort of stinks.

How are you handling eggs- I hate them. Every single time I eat egg I am completely nauseous. It doesn't matter if it's egg white or whole eggs and what consistency the egg is in. I will try them again in a month or so. So yeah, I think I am losing slowly...too slow but I am tweaking a few things and we will see how it goes.

You are doing great with the gym also! for now I am just doing videos at home but I am doing it consistently and then in two months or so my husband and I are going to join a gym. We are both busy right now running our kids around so I will just use the convenience of videos until I have free time.

The foamies are just horrid. And I also have discovered that i can't eat spaghetti sauce right now. So that is just thrilling. UGH

Eggs....it's funny that you say this. I used to LOVE hardboiled eggs. Now, it just seems too dry for me and I hate them. I can do scrambled eggs though. Especially if I put cheese in them.

I can't wait to eat veggies. I am trying to add a little bit of them in with my meat though. I can only eat 1/4 cup at a time and even sometimes I can't eat all of that!

I used to love a couple of the beachbody workouts. Piyo and Country Heat are faves of mine!!!!
I am really hoping I can just get into the habit of the gym over the next few weeks. My son's baseball season starts in a couple of weeks and before it really gets into hecticness with HS and Legion, I want to start going to the gym in the morning before work and get that habit going.

You could try a low sugar spaghetti sauce- Rao's is so good but expensive. But you won't use much so maybe that would work for you. I cannot touch scrambled eggs....I mean i can eat them and then i feel like there is a rock in my gut for hours and I just feel gross. I tried hard boiled in my tuna and that was just as bad....so for now I'm done with eggs. I try veggies once or twice a week and it's usually about 2-3 bites. I don't have the patience to try new stuff every single day or even cook dinner for myself every night. So some nights I eat cottage cheese. I try to cook 5 nights a week in some combination of days plus I pack lunch every day for work.

I went to my first restaurant this weekend- panera- and had broccoli cheese Soup. OMG it was so good....ate about 1/2 of a cup. Tore up the bread to make myself feel like I was going to eat it when I knew there was 0 chance I was putting any of that in my mouth but it was still satisfying :)

Good luck w/ the gym!

I started going out to eat 2 weeks ago. My rule of thumb is that I do NOT cook on Friday's. LOL
My entire adult life, Friday night was dinner out or take out.
So the first Friday I did that, I had crab stuffed flounder that was baked. It was so so tastewise, but my pouch loved it.

Then last Friday, we ordered out for lunch. There is a place near here called "Zoup"...soups and sandwiches. I had Lobster Bisque. OMG it was the best thing I have eaten since my surgery.
And then for dinner I had chicken pot pie. I really didn't like it very much, but my dog sure did when I brought him home the leftovers. LMAO

Broccoli cheese Soup has been a LIFESAVER to me. For whatever reason, the creamy Soups have been the best texture wise and warmth for my pouch.
For Panera, their vegetarian black bean soup is my fave!

I dont cook on Fridays either ! My family got pizza two Fridays ago and I almost killed them all a slow and painful death though.

I am going out for a friends bday this week also. Just the two of us,....I told her to feel free and get a drink if she wants, it won't phase me. I thought I would miss drinking (wine enthusiast here) but I have zero desire right now, which is great. and Zoups is good!

I hope I can join your group. I had my RNY gastric bypass surgery on 1/29/19. I've had trouble eating. It feels like I just prefer drinking Water. I feel so dehydrates and weak. I've lost 48lbs since surgery, but feel and look like the walking dead. I'm starting regular food and hope that will help me since I dislike Soup and mushy foods. Does anyone have these problems of feeling dehydrated and weak?

Have you tried the Protein waters, does give you a difference of taste. I keep feeling I look like Road Kill myself, but I just have a good drop in weight so maybe it will take a while to look better, I am starting to resemble dead relatives, never saw to resemblance before, but my son says I am still beautiful to him, and tells me frequently how proud he is of me, and even my PCP told me the same thing so maybe the Work In Progress that I am will turn out fine!👈👸👉

Hi there, welcome to the group!!!! It gets better. I had RNY 1/25/19. I felt the same way for the good part of my recovery. I healed a little slower than average as well. It does get better. I worked on my fluids, Protein and eating a little more. I was not consuming nearly enough. Once I made those adjustments my body kicked it together. I began to feel better around three wks ago. I’m now down 50 lbs. Stay encouraged it does get better. I also upped my B12. As it helps with energy. Good luck on your journey. I had trouble eating and still do, at these times I don’t even want to eat. But I stick with it an sometimes even end up replacing my meal with a yogurt. Whatever healthy you can get in there.

Of course you’re welcome! Hi and nice to meet you 👋🏻. I had the sleeve but my DIL has RNY. I do think her recovery time was a lot longer than mine as far as energy. I started getting mine back 3-4 weeks , hers was longer. My surgeon has me taking B12 sublingual every day as well. Hang in there, it will get better and congratulations on almost 50 lbs!! That is amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
