2018 Study: Liverwort (moss) might be better than THC for pain

Recommended Posts

For others, like me, who endure chronic pain that interferes with WLS, here's (yet another) discovery by scientists.

For a little over two decades, liverwort has been known to contain perrottetinene (PET), a compound that closely resembles tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis.

This was a very interesting article, thank you for posting it.

Yep, chronic pain is horrible. I am tired of being on Tramadol, etc. every day (almost 4 years now).

I found a nice little company that makes salves using the cannabis plant. The product doesn't contain any THC. I'm also using a hemp oil tincture that does contain CBD, but no THC. I've been getting a little relief at times from my pain, and it definitely helps ease my anxiety. It also seems to be helping me sleep better at night.

I'm really would like to eliminate some of my prescription pain meds as well as other medications and go about treating my pain and other issues with natural things. Why am I always so amazed that natural products can help with different ailments, etc? I mean, afterall, that is all people had available to them oh so many years ago.

I'm always interested in hearing about things like this.... thanks again for sharing.

@mylighthouse Yes, I like to keep up on all pain medication research. I used to take tramadol once upon a time. https://www.drugs.com/article/tramadol-need-to-know.html

My pain was no longer controlled by tramadol, however. I now take morphine (300mg per day) and oxycodone for break-through. I take gabapentin as well.

For a while, I was excited by research regarding sea snail venom.

https://www.sciencealert.com/sea-snail-venom-could-provide-a-new-long-lasting-alternative-to-opioid-painkillers

and cone snail venom

In my profile, I describe my bypass surgery and how I was not treated as a chronic pain patient having bariatric surgery but only as a bariatric patient. There is a huge difference. The pain medication I require to be comfortable is significantly greater than the average patient. This is a subject in which I can quickly go off in an incoherent tangent. Pain changes a person. It affects one's personality and makes life a day-to-day struggle.

For others who experience chronic pain not associated with their WLS, please share your experiences.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
