Just had my last visit with my surgeon, on day 1 of low calorie diet, definitely going to struggle on this. Surgery Date is the 30th anyone else having it that day or am I the last person on this group to have it done?

How is everyone doing that had surgery last week? I’m feeling pretty good today. Have all my Water and food cups set up for the day with my timers set. Sept 279.5, Nov 7 255, (surgery nov 14) nov 19 236.00. I’m elated. I’m hoping for new year 199 but might be asking for to much there lol. Hope everyone is coping well

My surgery date is Nov28 . I’m so glad to have you to talk to. My family is totally against this surgery. They won’t talk to me about the surgery even though my daughter had it 5 years ago and is doing well. They are afraid for me . My husband died of cancer 13 years ago and they think I’m risking my life with this surgery. I have a lot of medical conditions due to my obesity. I don’t want fat to kill me . All of my doctors are in total agreement that I should have this surgery. They know I have tried everything else to loose weight. You guys are the best . Thank you for letting me vent . ❤️

Only you know what is right for you and if you've your docs backing then Im definitely behind you on this decision. They will come round but you are doing this for you and your health and thats what matters. Sending you plenty of positive thoughts. We got this :)

My family not supportive either but you have to do what you need to do. They don’t walk in your shoes. I’m waiting for surgery now, just saw the doctor, who is running 2 hours late but said he watch the procedure on YouTube last night, so guess we are good. My son dropped me off 6 hours ago but is heading back to be here while I’m in surgery. I’m 67, have had 14 major surgeries, and need both knees replaced. I’m doing this so that that surgery goes well and to keep the burden off the knees and back. You’ve got this

Thank you so much . I just needed to hear your kind words . And you are right. The pain I face on a daily basis is unbelievable. I have knee problems and back problems as well. I’m also a senior. So it is so nice to hear from someone one else who is in my generation 😂 It has been a long 51/2 months of not having anyone to talk too . Thank you again Linda 🥰

Tomorrow I am off to the Dr. to get my stitches out! I get them out 2 days early due to my 2 week post op falling on Thanksgiving. I am excited for this appointment and have lots of good questions lined up for him. As of this morning i am down a total of 27.6 pounds and 7.6 since surgery. I am OK with this for two reasons.. Today i had to take Swift Kriss for Constipation LOL.. So i hope it kicks in before morning. Also, I gained 13.6 during surgery. I am not sure if there is anymore surgery swelling to drop or not. Either way for a few days, once i hit break even ( Thursday-1 week post op) then it dropped almost 2.5 pounds for 2 days in a row and then 1.8 and 1.2.. I am sure it will balance out somewhere and shouldn't be more than a pound a day i would think. Will see all what he says tomorrow.

Tomorrow's my day. I'm just ready to start this next phase. I'm worried about reflux, but I'd rather have heartburn and weigh 100 lbs less.

My surgery is tomorrow. I'm 62yo. Extra weight caused some problems with my health. I'm looking forward to my VSG! I took 6 weeks from work for recovery.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
