Luby's in its glory days was the quintessential home cookin' cafeteria you could go to and get all of your cravings satisfied with one tray...#misstheolddays

As a transplanted Yankee, I never understood the appeal of Luby's. I didn't like their food at all. That said, Kitty may claim to be from SoCal, but she seems to have a strong affinity to deep south eating! I think she's got some Southern roots in her family tree!

Yeah, you had to catch Luby's in its heyday. And it's also cultural. We grew up eating the LuAnn platter. LOL. We were so little, we literally would split a LuAnn!

We moved to Texas in '72, so I was here for the heyday. It's just that southern home-cooking is nothing like northern home-cooking

Not judging here (super envy)--but um, it does kinda "read" like a meal from Luby's aka "Song of the South". We pretty much believe if it "ain't carby or fatty" it has no use. And rice and gravy + mac and cheese + corn would be part of any last meal I could plan. It would probably also have fried okra and Salsbury or smothered steak. :D There. I said it. :D

Yes! Totally the same ... it's Paschal's, an Atlanta institution!

I've never been to a Luby's but every time I drive by one, I want to go in! I'm just usually with customers or colleagues, who don't necessarily share my love for meat & 3!

Totally true!

So couple of things at play

I love me some carbs, and fat and carbs together, even better

I also love novel, different, local food. Anything that is local and I can't get readily at home, I'm all about. So if it's meat & 3, or Cincinnati Chili, or White Castle or blue crab or regional BBQ, I'm all over it!

Oh, third thing, I travel to the south quite a bit, so that is probably over represented in my food pics!

Don't be tempted by Luby's any longer. They've gone downhill so so so badly. :( *sniff* But your Paschal's plate...hold me. :D And yes, love mes some meat & 3!!!! And carbs + gravy or carbs + fat almost equal the holy trinity. The blessed triumvirate of fatdom!

Adventures adventures!!!

So no IF per se. I have a little gastritis that I'm working on healing and the gastro dude advised: frequent small meals.

And that was it.

No details. No definition of what a "small meal" looks like, etc. LOLOL.

I'm like, "Dude! If I was capable of stopping myself at "small" meals, I woulda never gotten morbidly obese in the first place. LOL. The trouble is, that having discomfort after eating is apparently not enough negative reinforcement to make me curtail my eating. LOL. I'm like, "Homey don't play that sh*t! Now gimme my food bi*ch before I cut you."

I see the surgeon tomorrow where I bet she's gonna tell me I'm a hypochondriac and to get over myself and quit botherin' her. But I will ask her definition of food volume too. :)

So today (yeah it's taken me a while to get my bad self to behave) I'm actively trying to re-introduce the concept of eating only 1/2c of volume at a meal. And only eating when hungry--not just cuz it's been 2 hours since my last mini meal. *snort*

So I might be doing IF from the standpoint of caloric restriction, but not time restriction.

Anyone trying to do any kind of IF during the holidays?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
