Ok, so don't know that I will take pics every day cuz I'm compelled to go in and color correct etc. And I don't have time or energy for that. LOL. Here was today's food. I'd post afters but they were clean plates. The thing about being AR is that I know how much I can eat by now. So I only serve what I can eat. I probably won't end up eating the BS cuz I finished dinner at 8pm and it makes no sense to try to eat again in 1 hour. But I did actually have 3.25oz of pork loin. Cals were well under 500 for the day and Protein was 67g which is fine. Carbs were under my limits as well and fat was fine too. OMG. I'm such a nerd.

I'm struggling to follow. What are AR and BS?

I had a hungry day yesterday, so I didn't do IF. But at least everything I ate was smart choices, so I'm ok with that. We'll see if my hunger monster is awake today, if it has taken the day off I'll do IF today.

@GreenTealael I'm super impressed you can fast on a travel day. My travel days are planes and airports and all the food available gets to me, every time.

Ok, I stumbled upon this newer research on IF and eating windows. You just have to get past the guy with the "auto-voice" and listen, cuz it's very interesting! Maybe I should dump the alternate day gyrations and just do what most of you are doing with an eating window? It would certainly be easier. Right now after Breakfast, I'm dreading the quantity of food I still have looming ahead of me to meet my goals. *gulp*

What are y'alls thoughts on this?

Ok, this is nit picky, but 10 seconds in I'm turned off by full-proof vs. fool proof.

Ugh, maybe I'm just terrible ....

Ok, here's another one. :D It's full-proof too! ;) hehehe (I still don't know how we would do that with our new anatomies.)

Sounds like those of us who aren't morning-eaters are still out of luck. Why is it that everyone wants you to eat breakfast? UGH! And I don't think my boss would be good with me eating 3 meals a day at work!

Watch the second one. :) I'm about to watch a third on why women should fast differently. I'll get back to you. And I hear ya. I'm not a morning eater either. But by late afternoon...hungry AF! LOL. I guess that means my body has some "issues" lol. I'm like, "Ya think?" *snort* And not so surprisingly, I can fall asleep easily, but I'm easily woken and once I wake up--good luck to me to get back to sleep. Also pain wakes me and then that's it for sleep!

Ok, here's the third one. And it talks about the need for women to not fast every day. That there is a need for us to do an alternate day style of fast. LOL. *snort*. So I think I will just continue with the ADF stuff, but maybe not have the non-fasting days so structured. Which is actually what Dr. Johnson's original plan wants you to do--but as usual, I have to take it to extremes. ROFLMAO!!!

I'd have to do the reading on the studies behind this to get a solid opinion .... BUT

The first video has some red flags, for me.

"It's not about what you eat, it's about when you eat" Well that's just not true.

One of the studies it sites is based upon 8 people. That's not solid science.

I'd be interested to see some of the studies and if they tracked calories consumed. The BY study it says the participants ate their normal food. But were they consuming less of those foods because they had less time to eat, they cut out a meal or snack?

Where did they get that schedule from, eat 30-60 minutes after waking up, eat a larger breakfast than lunch. I don't see any study sited for that.

"A week later you'll start feeling all the amazing benefits" This sounds like the hype around every fad diet, IMO

"Don't count calories, they don't matter" Don't we all wish that was the truth

Why is there the focus to eat during the early part of the day? I didn't hear them refer to any studies on that

So, I acknowledge I am a natural cynic. But if this video was the first time I heard of IF, I'd write it off as another fad diet. I know there is solid science behind IF, but this video just makes it seem like some sort of miracle. And we all know that losing weight, no matter what plan we follow, even when we have our stomachs removed or digestive track rerouted is hard af!

Here's another couple from a nutrition instructor. LOL. Didn't check what credentials she has.

I haven't seen the video so not sure of the specifics. I did google IF yesterday and there were 3 modes you could do for IF. The one I chose was skipping breakfast and then just watching what I eat for the other meals. So, this one obviously does not promote a big breakfast! lol

However, I've heard that from nutritionists and doctors and many other places for years that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that you can handle a larger breakfast.

But, for me, I've been trying that and it really doesn't work for me. I actually enjoyed not having breakfast today. It was my first day to try IF. I felt empowered, oddly. But I really didn't grow up eating breakfast, I've only forced myself to become a breakfast eater because of all the pressure to do so.

I'll have to check out the video at some point but it does help to be cynical and to use your critical thinking skills. If they need you to buy something or pay for something, then be careful. Google IF and there is a lot of free information.

Oh, and as far as counting calories -- having gastric bypass has shown me that you don't need to count calories. Just count grams of protein/fat/carbs. And it is so much easier!!

From your mouth to God's ears. We are not identical machines. We all have different levels of broken-ness. For the past 3 months, I've been trying to up my calories from my present 550-800 cals per day. If I eat at the 750-800 cal level long enough (ie about 3-5 days). I will gain weight. I'm not talking glycogen/water stores either. LOL. It's ridiculous!

So for me to lose, I have to work like a demon to make sure my diet is clean. And it's also complicated by the fact that I can eat a pretty normal qty of food now...

So you see? We're all so unique!

I find counting everything is s much easier these days with apps like My Fitness Pal. :)

But counting macros is just a different way of counting calories, since each gram has a fixed caloric value.

The first video literally said the only thing that matters is limiting your eating window. I mean in my fantasy world I'd love to be able to eat recklessly even if only for limited number of hours. But unfortunately that's not the real world.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
