Non Plain Water Drink Choices

Recommended Posts

So...I didn’t enjoy the aftertaste of crystal light and light type drinks before surgery...and I really can’t stand it now. I do enjoy ice cold tap Water. Are there any alternatives to this for drinking post surgery. Sometimes, I jut need a good drink!

I’m not exactly sure if this is good but I did watered down Gatorade. I wanted something other then Water too but if I didn’t not water down the Gatorade it was too sweet for me. I asked my nutritionist and she said that was much better then drinking juice or any other sweet drinks. I did find a light Gatorade which is actually not bad. I wasn’t a big fan of drinking anything to sweet even before he surgery so maybe that’s what’s helped me.

Teas! Hot and cold are yummy... with lemon or other sweetener

I drink a lot of tea, mostly green and herbals. I start my day with it and drink into the afternoon. I do not add sweetener. Many of the herbals are naturally sweet. Since I prefer loose tea, I can make my own blends.

I also second the Hint waters. I discovered them by accident while traveling and am now a huge fan. There is no sugar. They are "infused" with fruit. They don't have a strong flavor, but just a "hint" of the fruit. Love them!

**I also really dislike the Crystal Light. I even tried the ones sweetened with stevia, the "pure" line, but I just can't tolerate them on a regular basis. I'm not one for artificial sweeteners, period. So, I tend to avoid them.

Minute Maid makes alight drinks with very little sugar/carbs and are 15 calories. They’re in the refrigerated section of the stores. I dilute mine a bit for guilt purposes. One bottle lasted me about 3 weeks because I don’t drink it often.

Diet ocean spray has good low cal flavored drinks too; in the aisle, not refrigerated. I too dilute those

I second the recommendations for Hint and Propel; I also have become quite fond of the Lipton diet green teas in the mixed berry and citrus flavors (there are others, but I haven't tried them).

I use sqwinchers zero (it's like a Gatorade or Powerade). And Gatorade now has Gatorade Zero. Also use Stur which has many flavors. sugar free koolaid works too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
