Pre-surgical anxiety is extremely common.

I'm sure everyone has, it's a totally normal thing to feel. Just remember why you want the surgery!

It’s normal :)
Just remember your “why”.... and it’s over before you know it :)

I think it is the thought of the after effects is what is bothering me the most. Loose skin, Hair loss and those kinds of things. I know the positives totally trump the negatives BUT I feel like I am doing this because my size now bothers me and I don't like the way I feel and look in some clothes but after surgery will I also not like how I look due to the loose skin?

Well the Hair loss is said to be temporary and there are ways to make it less noticeable until it starts growing back.

Loose skin is a problem for many but your age, heredity and weight history contributes to how much you wind up with. Just like some people have flat tummies and no stretch marks after multiple kids and others don't. It can be removed once you stabilize your weight at your goal. Plenty of before and after pictures elsewhere on here showing amazing results. Wearing stuff like Shapewear can also camouflage loose skin and make you look better in clothes.

I think these worries are common for many but certainly not a reason not to lose weight or have the surgery. My guess is that a year from now you will be very happy with your results. Good luck!!

Do the thoughts of the health risks of staying obese bother you?

I would rather be a thin size 10 with loose skin here or there than an obese size 20.

Health should trump vanity.

And I dream of being a 15 junior, doesn't matter if I have a blobby floppy belly, I can try firming up, if not I'll keep clothed. What I am weary of is a size 26, over 300 lb body I can barely walk with that keeps me in unrelenting pain. God did not create me to cry myself to sleep and awake to another day of feeling body parts fail.

@AshMarie794 I was gung ho about surgery all the way up until the night before. It was suddenly something that was actually happening and not an event that I was working towards in the future. I had been thinking about it for years and more than 6 months of hard focus and suddenly I was panicking?! This happens with basically every big event in my life because something major is about to happen and then things will forever change and that can be terrifying.

I will not say that I stopped freaking out, because I didn't, all the way up until the knocked me out. I did however make the decision to see the stress and fear for what it was and let it be. I do not know that there was any help for it and I know for a fact that if I had let that fear make a decision for me that I would have immediately and absolutely regretted it. That fear and panic tend to throw all reason and logic out the window at a moments notice.

I am here on the other side, 9 weeks out, and it is amazing! I am very happy with the decision I made to move forward and not let me emotions get the best of me. I wish you all the best!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
