My parents must live in the wrong part of Texas or have the wrong friends! I'll ask around, I'll be there tomorrow!

Can attest that tamales for Christmas has been going on since I was a tiny girl. I'm 57. I'm willing to bet it's been tradition long before that. ;)

Ok, I give you Fun With Fluff! :) I made frozen Fluff Clouds. :D For 2 of them...only 34calories. They taste like a frozen type of ice cream sandwich cookie.

Question for everyone: Has anyone drank Kombucha after surgery? I ran it by my nutritionist and my surgeons assistant and they both said the carbonation is not as bad as soda so it wont cause stretching. They weren't concerned about the sugar or calories because its so little.

Does anyone's doc say otherwise? I love the stuff but I'm still afraid of drinking it on a daily basis. I've replaced my morning chamomile tea with a bottle of this.

These are the two brands I've been drinking. I find the Humm to have less carbonation.

I have had carbonated drinks since early on post WLS. I know many would have an issue with that. It worked for me, and my surgeon's team grudgingly was ok with it.

But for me, personally, I wouldn't add 60 extra cals a day, in non satisfying (to me) liquid. But if that trade off is worthwhile for you, I don't see a problem with it.

My favorite part: I used her she used me

We were getting our share

My musician friend sings this one and it is one of my favorites.

Good to know my team is not the only one who is ok with it.

For me it’s a good trade off. Since surgery Water hasn’t tasted the same so not only is it helping me get down Fluid but also tmi - go to the bathroom...

I’m still on the hunt for another alternative/hoping the water problem goes away.

I wondered the same thing. And I agree. No Syrup on my salad. Ever. Thanks. But it looked great until I knew it was syrupy kale🤣😂

How much Maple Syrup do y'all think I'm using to cook with? Ahahahaha

It's a just dash- very likey less than the sugar amounts in commercial salad dressings (or I'd feel it 😭) & This **** is expensive...

Y'all are missing out on a golden opportunity

Lol, the stuff gets used up pretty quickly in my house. Here is a pic of the maple Syrup we buy about once a year. (Milk container included for size comparison...) 😉

1/4 th that size has lasted me this entire year! I get mine during vacays to the ADKs or Vermont. I taste a few to decide which I want because I usually get a *darker grade smokey favored one - Not overly light and sweet ones (no one often eats pancakes or waffles with Syrup in my family 😂)

*Its a bit different from pancake syrup. I'm sure y'all know that

Ok, so if you are ever game for a road trip to Quebec (NY is not so far away!), you should try heading to the area north of Montreal and sample some maple-inspired menus in a traditional "Cabane à Sucre" (aka "Sugar Shack") during the maple harvest in the Spring. The venues range from 2 Michelin star establishments to decades-owned family farms whose barns are stuffed with harvest tables to serve meals to the public during maple season.

....and when you get tired of all the nature, you can head back into Montreal and party it up.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
