SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS

So tomorrow I am 2 weeks post surgery. Weight was falling pretty good (18 lbs) now the past four days nothing. I hate to think I’ve plateaued already😞

I was devastated the first time I quit losing, and it lasted for two weeks! They say we've "stalled" but the term has a negative vibe to it. I realized it's a period for the body to ADJUST and catch up to the changes going on. And odd issues can happen anytime - I'm 12 weeks out and sometimes my stomach threatens to reject what I sent down there. Some days are great, others are iffy. I've learned to treat my stomach with respect and delicacy. And I don't mind losing slowly, averaging aout 8 oz per day. Slow and steady is just fine.

Yes it is devastating but mentally I knew it was bound to happen. Just need to keep pushing forward. Yes you are correct tho slow and steady will win the race

3 weeks post and my intake of everything is so low that I started eating pedialyte popsicles. The sf popsicles taste gross to me now. I couldn’t even finish one yesterday. Darn changing taste buds. I’m on purées but I don’t want anything 🤢🤢🤢. SW:304 CW:275

And do you realuze, I have list37.5 pounds since, the end of July? Alas I am a BIG GIRL and to many it is not, obvious except I have lost my double chin, I now had a neck instead of a trunk and my forearms and wrists are thinning out But the,too thick rump still remains, and my tummy is a tiny bit flatter. I just got to remember like I told Find I above turtle up 🐢 you can't be a Weight Loss 🐰bunny in this race.

I am 4 weeks post op today and have lost 17 pounds total. Slow go last couple weeks but doctor said all is normal. Have lost 3 inches around my waist and an inch on my arms. I have also noticed alot of change in my face. So that makes it all worth while. Even if the scale is not moving the clothes are!

And another update f4om yours truly.
Well I had my EGD, although since I am a bypass, it would be more factual to call it an EDJ, my duodenum is not accessible but my jejunem sure is. News Flash, we'll News Sputter because I have been suspecting IT all along, I do have a stricture, it is not all post-surgical swelling as many N.P. staff members of my Bauatric team were hoping. And alas Hector my itty bitty gastric ulcer now has 5 step siblings in my pouch and just past my stoma in the UK. What to do? Well, I do stay on what I call my Stage 2A diet, broths , strained and gently creamy Soups, do not delete my Protein Shakes, try to Protein enrich where I can and carry on valiantly. We have upped the omeprazole to b.I.d. (twice daily) I can add runny mashed potatoes as long as I have stirred Protein Powder in, keep looking on Stage 2 sheet to see if there is anymore things I can runnyfiy ( don't think that's a real word) keep on with my Vitamins and minerals, because they and protein are going to kee0 me healthy. By took or crook keep the old Poo Factory going, this is difficult, "Nothing much in, Nothing much out" but Miralax b.I.d. M9M as needed but try for minimum of 3 times weekly And we have now added in. Carafate 6am- noon- 6pm-midnightm Since it comes in 💊, we'll more like an oval small horse size, pour boiling Water ove it in my little shot glass, stir the slurry and when it is cool enough, chug gently down. Has little flavor,I think it tastes like wheat flour. Plenty of fluids, go and sin no more, don't torment Precious Pouch with new foods, especially meats and resign yourself to a repeat EDJ in 2 weeks, we will call with a time, thank you very much. And by the way, congratulations on your weight loss, nice meeting you and see you in 2 weeks if not sooner.
I'm glad I didn't cancel, not sure what k8nd of shape I might have been in if I had. And down the trail, I'm sure I'll look back and this will seem just a " BLIP" but it is rocky enough living it.
Keep the Good Wishes coming, I Will Make It through It All!😛❤

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
