How much Biotin do you take?

Recommended Posts

My hair is now starting to come out a bit so I am starting Biotin. I have the BariMelts kind that is chewable/melts which says one tiny pill has in 5.000 mcg. How many did you take to prevent Hair loss? I figure one in the morning and one at night? That is what I have been doing for the last 4 days. Also, how long did you take the Biotin for? 1 year?

Appreciate your feed back. Thanks.

I took whatever amount came standard in Multivitamins

I however did supplement with LLysine and prayer

Google telogen effluvium for a better understanding of the Hair loss you are experiencing.

There's a lot of helpful info out there but in the end you will have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

I figure I'm going to shed like crazy anyway, I haven't bothered with Biotin. I lost so much hair after each kid that I had visible stubble. I started going silver/white at eighteen. I've been married for twenty-three years to the same man whose been my best friend for 31 years. I'll shave my head before I worry about Hair loss.

Now, just because I don't give a flying flip, that doesn't mean all of you are as comfortable with hair loss as I am. Best wishes, and I hope the biotin helps.

I take 2 - 5000mcg/day. I have lost hair, but not tragic amounts. I also put peppermint oil in my leave-in conditioner, it is supposed to stimulate regrowth similar to using rogaine - according to one gov study. I have baby hairs growing back in now. I started with the Biotin six months before surgery, and regular Vitamins as well. I also take an extra folic acid.

I take 1K mcg of Biotin, plus what's in my multi. In addition I take L-lysine, Zinc and B complex to help with Hair loss. I started biotin a month before surgery and the others when I noticed hair loss. It doesn't seem to have any effect honestly. I'm losing hair by the handful.

I asked the surgeon about Biotin and he said there is no miracle cure for Hair loss thus all the bald men around ;) I have lost a bunch too.....

I take 10k units per day. It hasn't helped much. And I always meet my Protein goals. I don't think there's much in the way of prevention to be done.

We were told not to waste our money on Biotin supplements as it won’t prevent/help the Hair loss.

Hair loss ultimately seems like luck of the draw, but in my research your Iron feritin levels need to be good, as well as all other Vitamin and minerals and Protein levels need to be superb. Then there was research being conducted with the amino acid llysine and male pattern baldness that in turn was conducted in other types of Hair loss that seemed promising... But Biotin will not do anything for this specific condition, telogen effluvium.

Thanks everyone. I need to start taking Iron now that I am no longer hypertensive. I was unable to take iron before surgery because of high blood pressure but now its low to normal. i'll start taking the low dose kind in addition to the Biotin and hope for the best. I am not loosing much hair and I am also peri/ menopausal so the Hair loss can be from that. Fingers crossed that the surgery will have shocked my body into not having any more periods! Have not had one in almost 8 weeks so I would be most happy if this continues

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
