I am really struggling with Constipation. I have tried Milk of Magnesia, a Fleet Enema and now stool softeners. It's very painful and sore when I try to go. Everything is hard and not moving well. Any suggestions this is awful. I had RNY Gastric Bypass a month and a week ago. I was on antibiotics but finished a week ago. I just take Tylenol as needed. I have had a few Saltines due to nausea. I'm miserable.

I feel the same way, I take A stool softener every night, use Miralax or prune juice every couple of days. I buy the enemas by the 6 pack!

Try to drink more Water.

I’m almost 2 months out.

Try using Smooth Move tea or something similar and even stevia or sugar substitutes as they can cause a laxative effect in higher amounts, but discuss with your team first.

Smooth Move tea works shockingly well for me. I was a skeptic....but the poo doesn't lie. It works like a charm. Check with your team first, though.

Also...the Constipation passes. For me, after the second month have not had any issues.

You poor thing!! I haven't had my surgery quite yet, but I would call the surgeon's office if none of the suggestions below work by Friday. Just my opinion. Hope you feel better soon!!

Welcome to the joy of post RNY life. I know the feeling. When I do have a BM, it's so hard I'm left feeling like Richard Simmons in a prison shower. I hope you find some relief.

Before bypass no problems. 2 weeks after no problems. The last 2 days just shoot me. I had 3 c-sections but I was beginning to believe these last couple of days that I was somehow experiencing natural child birth. Finally a combo of Dulcolax and Milk of Magnesia did the trick, just wished I'd had an epidural. I'm now adding sugar free Fiber chewables to the million Vitamins I'm already taking in hopes of avoiding having to go into labor again. LOL

I find Smooth Move Tea works as well.

I’m jumping on the Smooth Move tea vote... give it a few hours after drinking. Definitely not an issue after that. Make sure you’re home - gives me stomach cramps for about 15 min

Have you tried taking Miralax everyday (assuming your surgeon approves)? This was recommended to me in the early post-op days/weeks when Constipation is not uncommon. Also try getting in MORE than 64 oz of Water a day, and walking as much as possible.

I ended up with impacted bowel 4 weeks after surgery and was in pain and miserable for a week; I would tell you how my doctor had me fix the situation but it’s gross and TMI. I now religiously take 1/2 cap of miralax with 4 oz of Trop50 every morning. If I miss a dose or don’t go at least every other day, I know it’s going to be problematic.

Upon my discharge I was told that the pain medication we take can cause Constipation, along with drinking our Iron pills which we are stuck taking them for life as I'm told. I was prescribed Ducosate, they are a small pill and they truly do help out in preventing constipation. If my surgeon assisted in prescribing this to her patients after surgery, I'm hoping the same could be done for you. Just don't take it every day, since we don't really intake much especially after surgery, you don't want everything you drink or eat come out from that portal.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
