I just don’t think there’s any place for name calling. If you truly think someone is a bully (and you seem to be good at searching people’s history so you can easily find out what I think about slinging the name “bully” around—in brief I think it’s an over used ad hominem attack) then perhaps you shouldn’t call people names.

It’s also against the rules to personally attack like that.

I can disagree with someone and not resort to that. Even if I think they were inappropriate, it’s no reason to stoop to that level. You lose your own credibility.

I mean here you are, supposedly on my side of this argument, and I wish you weren’t.

Um, she started the name calling with rude and ignorant. I responded with rude, insecure and judgmental. This is not the first time she has called me names. She is a bully. Just my opinion. Not sure about the rules on a unmonitored public internet forum as long as no porn or profanity but if I need to be disciplined BRING IT...:D

I am not on anyone's side other than standing up to a bully know-it-all. She can and will keep spewing her BS and tearing down others. People like that have no conscience or consideration for the feelings of anyone.

I am really done her now but continue discussing amongst yourselves and get those reports in!!

She did not call you ignorant, she said ignorance was expressed. And you were rude. You specifically called HER names and escalated things.

Yes exactly. I rarely count my macros anymore. I do eat a LOT of dairy and animal Protein though. It’s probably the bulk of my diet.
Which type of vegetables do you focus on ? I was noticing that a few of my contemporaries are not really eating vegetables, just meat and dairy.

Vegetables... well I avoid corn, peas and all forms of potatoes, white or otherwise. Cruciferous ones don’t agree with me unless they are way mushy and then ick l. Same with carrots. So I do a lot of leaves of all varieties... lettuces, spinach, kale, cabbage and arugula. I also do bell peppers, snap peas and cucumbers (Armenian are my favorite). I can do a small amount of shredded carrots in my salad or in Cole slaw (huge favorite in our house and I make several varieties of homemade dressing). Lots of onions, mushrooms, celery, squash, cilantro, avocados (I do live in California after all). And whatever I see at farmers market—boy choy this week!

Hmmm. This is a forum of wls people finding their way to goal in whatever manner works for them and seeking support and sometimes answers from the same pool that they are in. Since there is no way science has mastered the perfect way to do this, the vast experiment continues. I do think there is a lot of crap on here at times with some good advice. When I read about regains, it seems to be caused by our inability to control emotional eating or age-related metabolic changes that science hasn't helped us solve yet. Keto or lower carb plans DO WORK for many obese/formerly obese that regained, it's the not continuing a plan that derails people. There are some successes with moderate plans, but not as many long term wls people use that approach.

i fail to see how getting riled up about any of it is productive. I also cannot give advice to any vet that has had a regain and wants to start over - I can encourage them. Since I am sleeved less than a year and in no position to tell a vet what plan works for them, as I am still figuring myself out.

It’s interesting to think about! As a whole are we more successful because we seek out more information, are more committed and more knowledgeable? Are we less successful because as a whole because we spend more time on our computers and smart phones than getting exercise? Are people who post more or less successful than people who lurk and just read (because most internet boards are more lurkers than posters). More successful because we have a “support group?” Less successful because it’s online and because it doesn’t have the safeties in place an in person one has (I mean let’s be real, people don’t “say” these kinds of things in person).

I’m just pulling random possibilities out of the air because who knows.

I think stronger moderation of the board (maybe but I don't like stringent oversight) or just reposting of rules before entry (no x,y,z allowed) would help a lot. Everyone had strong opinions and personalities, bit we should be able to coexist here. But I think for sure NEVER EVER any personal attacks. I like this site A lot, and ALL of the participants. We just need to chill sometimes.

How much does luck figure in? The fact that my body responded beautifully to this surgery and that I can eat the diet I prefer and lose weight...is not lost on me.

How much was strategy, and how much was luck?

I'm not saying I don't work extremely hard. But there's a curve in all results. How much of it is pure luck of the draw that I ended up on this side of the curve?

Which factor is more important to long term success? Diet, exercise, supportive home environment, work ethic, emotional stability, skill of surgeon, mental health?

it's an interesting little puzzle....and the people who make the noise are very rarely representative of the whole.

Self reported information has a huge bias.

Oh I think luck is definitely a factor in success... I think one day we will have a lot more science and be able to figure out what works for whom and tailor diet and surgery type (or no surgery) based on scientific principle, but for now luck is a huge part of it. I consider myself VERY lucky to have responded so well to my surgery and diet.

BUT I feel like luck would be evenly represented among posters here and lurkers here and the general population. Cuz, ya know, it’s luck!

Trying to figure out population characteristics and chance events are usually controlled for across different populations and selection groups. Yeah I was a statistics minor.

I eat a fair amount of vegetables. I eat a lot of cucumbers. Also, coleslaw (with Marzetti's lite dressing), summer squash & asparagus (sauteed or grilled).

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
