You and I are close in age, starting weight and bmi. I agree with comments that when you don't have "as" much to lose it is slower. I lost at about your pace of little less than a pound a day loss. I have lost nearly 40lbs since surgery on 4/11/18. I don't regret it one bit and I had a LOT of complications. It's been well worth it. So try not to focus on the negative. For me this was a "new life" and there isn't any room for past behaviors or ways of thinking. Lose the voices in your head that say your going to fail or it's not enough. Do some self work to explore these issues because facing those issues will help make this more than weight loss but losing the weight and freeing yourself from the things that caused you to gain in the first place. Good luck!

No worries, Mikealkay! Honestly, I only read the first few sentences. You were very clear in what you were trying to say...I wasn’t listening! Hahaha

Thank you all so much for the support and good advice. It’s like being part of a big family, one person gives you a hug while another smacks you upside the head and you realize you badly needed both lol. Thank you!!

I had my sleeve on June 1st and have only lost 10 pounds since then. I lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet for a total loss of 18 pounds. I am 48 years old. I read all the time about how the weight is just falling off other people but it’s not for me. I am always hungry. I can eat about 3/4 cup of Soup with no problem. I drink my Water and Protein. I’m starting to think that my surgeon didn’t cut enough of my stomach. I feel like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life.

I think a pound a day is fabulous! Take a picture of your face, then take one in a week. You will freak at how different just your face looks. Mine looks like it shrunk! Good luck and take heart...you are on an amazing journey.

I’m not sure what astounds you? It’s NOT a quick fix. Many people fail. It’s not just surgery but that of a lifestyle change. So, I expect weight loss while I alter my lifestyle and habits. I empathize with Brass as I may have the same concerns. Is it not ok that I’m afraid I may fail?

Its not bad that you fear failure, its bad that you are setting yourself up for unrealistic expectations. The weight will not just melt off. Some people lose quicker, some slower. But one thing that we all have in common, is that they tell us that the majority of weight is loss between 12-18 months, not 12-18 days.

The reason I say this is because, I fear that when you get to where I am, almost 5 months post op, and you aren't losing 2-3 lbs per week anymore... What will you think then? What kind of emotional beating will you give yourself? The fact of the matter is it takes a lot of patience. This isn't liposuction, where you wake up and you've lost all the weight, and everything is grand. They put a year long time frame on it, because it takes THAT long. Follow the program. And think to yourself. How long did it take me to loose 5lbs prior to surgery. I know that I am thankful for every pound lost, because I know how HARD it was prior to surgery to lose that single pound.

Again, just like I said to the OP.... you've lost 4 lbs per week... that is great. How long would it have taken you to lose that prior to having WLS? If you continue to loose 4lbs per week, at 6 months you'll be down 96 lbs. Id say that is a tremendous success. More so, it is very common to stall around the 3 week mark. I stalled for a week and a half. It will break and you will lose just as much as if you hadn't stalled.

Trust me, I am very happy with 8lbs in the first week. But I have been stalled since from day 7 post op to now. I haven't read of people stalling so soon. But I am tellling myself that I am am just getting the infamous 3 week stall 2 weeks early so I won't have to go through it then. Fingers crossed! lol

I stalled at the same time as you, almost exactly. I spent 5 days in the hospital due to complications and I didn't loose anything from about a week post op until I was well into my 3rd week.

You are absolutely allowed to feel all the emotions you want, but at some point you have to refocus and get back to the work of self care
rapid and slow weight loss both have perks and drawbacks but your journey is your own and your body will do what is right for you

The 1lb a day is an average weight loss that our doctors and Nuts drill into our head durning the 6 months of classes and appointments. That is no way meant to take to the bank. You had a MAJOR OPERATION your body is saying WTF did you just do to me. Take a breath and relax you will get there. You need to heal first and stay off the scales until your first appointment. My program tells us Do Not Weigh yourself any where except in there office 1x at the monthly meetings and then 2 weeks latter. We are not to weigh after surgery until our follow up because of all the negative thinking that happens after surgery. Everyone seems to do it for some reason. I don’t even own a scale anymore. And I refuse to buy one until I am at 50% of my goal.

When you are dehydrated and on a crash diet basically your body is going to retain as much Water as possible. There is no way at this point you won’t lose weight. I started with my surgery the exact weight you are almost a year ago and I now 11 months post op and have lost 100 pounds, my weight loss was consistent but a little slower because I was bad and didn’t follow the regulations for part of it! You are doing great! Just Take is easy on yourself, you will lose weight and the slower you lose weight the better for your skin and hair. Just follow the dietary guidelines, walk a little when you feel up to it. Keep a water bottle with you drink lots of Protein Shakes. You are doing great! Now that I am a year post op I am doing and feeling better than ever and feel like I wasted a lot of energy worrying about little stuff. The first six months after my surgery I felt like I made a mistake because I wasn’t taking care of myself. But now I wouldn’t change it for anything !

@Brassapple You and I are the same age. 48. I don't know about you but I am in perimenopause, hopefully on the way to full menopause since my periods are so random. So you have to bear in mind that you are also experiencing hormonal changes which impact emotions. If you have not read up on pre menopause you should give it a google a few nights. Depression and feeling all of a sudden like the bottom of the world is going to drop out (doom) are some of the things some women grapple with.

Additionally, as others have mentioned, you started at a lower weight than most people. The higher the weight is, the faster the initial pounds drop off but then everyone goes through stalls after that. So you can't or should not compare your rate of weight loss with others who may have been much larger than you.

You are only 10 days post op and your body is still expelling the gas you were pumped up with during surgery and the Fluid IV's (how long were you in hospital for?). I was in hospital for 3 days with 2 days of constant IV fluid. VSG is not abracadabra as I personally am finding out. I can drink a lot more liquid than solid food but I also realise I can still eat dark chocolate :( We will get out of this what we put in, literally. You have a window of 12-18 months to hit your goal which is SO DOABLE! It is really possible for you. You will do this - one day at a time

Thank you very much for the much needed pep talk. I didn’t think of menopause. Will definitely look into it. Thanks again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
