Well everything, I’m post op day 2!!! I’m in a lot of pain... I’m truly grateful for the forums and peoples comments because it helped me.. out of surgery that evening I walked and was feeling great and then around 2am these spasms start happening... felt like contractions... it’s normal they say... of course abdominal pain and soreness and nausea... my first liquids I threw up 😠 but with all the medications I am able to tolerate some fluids... what I’ve realized is that if the liquid is too cold or to hot.. my stomach is not feeling it.. so I’ve been doing things room temperature.. I’m not trying to scare anyone... but this surgery was nothing like my gallbladder... much more pain... yesterday I was having buyers remorse, but today I am feeling a lot better.... if these spasms go away... I will be happy!!! One again thank you for the blogs that gave real information, because when it happens to me I said to my self.. that’s what the bloggers said would happen... I’m going to try full liquids to see if my stomach tolerates that per the surgeons order... I have 5 incisions and I got
Rid of the catheter on post op day 1....

Hi! I am Post of Day 2 also. I am sorry you are having pain. I am lucky on only get spasms sometimes, and the pain meds are really helping. Keep your chin up, it will get better. The worst thing for me is going to the bathroom and not being able to twist to clean myself. Marriage vows never said “when your spouse can’t wipe themselves”, but my husband has been a saint about it. Wishing for your speedy recovery! Good Luck to you!

Day 4 pre-op liquid only seems to be kicking my butt today. Pushing forward with some hard work and house cleaning to distract myself. 2 more days liquid, and 1 clear liquid day until showtime!! Come on July 25th.

I was doing the same thing all day. I am on my 6th day of my 2 wk liquid diet. I kind of feel as if I'm nesting. Cleaned out my closet and got rid of a lot of clothes I will soon not fit. I just left enough to use the first 2 months, and after that (hoping before that) they will begin to fall off of me. I even bought a gorgeous jewelry chest. Its close to 3.5' and I put some jewelry in it, but plan to fill it up when I start buying clothes. God knows I can't wait to go shopping. Anyway, it's been hard, but I've been drinking about 80 oz of Water a day and in between my shakes, I've had an occasional cup of hot broth. I helps with the hunger pains. Time seems to be passing faster than what I expected. I try to wake up late and go to bed early. I sleep 8-9 hrs at night and keep busy all day. I know that before we know it our special date will be upon us. Come on July 30th.

Two days post op. I haven’t really been able to drink 4oz or have a bowel movement yet. Has this happened to anyone else

I'm still 9 days pre-op, but I've read that it is very difficult the first few days. Good luck and don't stop trying to get your liquids in. Even if its just an ounce every thirty minutes. Try Protein Water to get some protein in. Keep us posted. I believe in you. You got this girl.

Keep up with he good work. Surgery will be here before you know it.

Im 8 days out from surgery and I’m barely hungry. Hopefully, you will react the same way. I was so worried about being ravenous afterwards and it’s just not the case.

Best of luck to you. :-)

I didn’t pass gas until I was home from the hospital, so day three. Also, it was all I could do to get that bit of Water down. The first 4 days or so are rough. Just take in what you can and it will improve. I’m now 8 days post op and drinking like a champ. I still don’t hit my 64 ounce target but, my urine in very light so I know I am hydrated. Oh, my first bowel movement was diarrhea. Don’t be surprised if that happens. Doc said it’s from my liquid diet.

Take care of yourself and best of luck with your recovery.

I had an issue with constipation....it was pretty rough....about 10 days out, I had to get Milk of Magnesia, and some other help to go. Once I did, I did feel much better. I did end up calling my bariatric center for advice, they told me drink warm Water or tea, and try the MoM and to walk to get things moving....good luck

Same! I am post op day 4 and did two suppositories, two days of Miralax, and have been taking the colase they prescribed religiously... and nothing. I finally went to Rite Aid and bought the arsenal of cleaning out stuff.. enemas, milk of magnesia, doculsate tablets... and finally the milk of magnesia did it for me. Oh sweet relief!

I was very close to having to turn to professional help to clear things out and am so glad to get over that hurdle!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
