Does anyone regret getting the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am less than 2 weeks away. next week I start my liquid diet. Of Course I am having a little bit of the cold feet wondering about all the what ifs and will I be able to hold down liquids. Has anyone had a hard time or any regrets?

SW 240

Sleeve 8/15

lowest wt: 198

CW 235

in the last 6 months I’ve gained 20 lbs. I’m hungry all the time. I do regret the sleeve. Stick to tracking your food! I got busy, really busy and didn’t have time to meal prep anymore, etc.

Not to troll, but how is the sleeve responsible for this? What do you regret about the surgery itself?

The effects are limited. I gained the weight back, and I never even lost that much, about 35 lbs. for the first year I ate less than 800 and stalled the last 10 months. They asked if anyone regretted and I do. I am at my starting weight. I didn’t place blame you did.

I see what you're saying now. I was asking for more information, not placing blame. I think your additional detailed response answers the OP question.

I regret getting the sleeve (2011). I developed severe GERD, lost restriction, only lost 30lbs and gained it all back. It was as if I didn’t even have the surgery

i am now 13 days post op sleeve to bypas

I regret getting the sleeve back in March 2016, I should have got the bypass, Went from 250 to 180 back up to 265, now I am 245. Never reached my goal weight of 150.

Edit: to add why, the surgeon didn't take out enough of my stomach. A year and a half later, I got an upper GI series and the tech and new surgeon both said it didn't even look like I had a sleeve. The new surgeon also said this was not due to stomach stretching, but original surgeon error.

This is unacceptable and I truly feel for you. Glad you are pursuing a revision

Yes, and no.

The sleeve has been an absolutely wonderful tool in that it dropped my weight significantly enough to be able to have a much needed hernia repair. The hernia had me in pain all the time, and my surgeon told me "you need to lose weight", but he couldn't perform the repair until I did. After losing the first 80-100 lbs, I had my hernia repair.... yay! Also, knee pain went away after dropping the weight.... and even though I wasn't outwardly manifesting other health problems, such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc., I know the sleeve helped me keep those things away.

Also, the sleeve helped me become more committed in my endeavor to be healthy, lose weight and keep it off, change my eating habits, etc.

For all of those reasons, I am thankful for the sleeve!

Now, after multiple problems (GERD related), I wish I had been more informed about choosing which type of surgery best suited me. I had moderate heartburn/acid reflux issues before the sleeve surgery, but I was afraid to get "rerouted" and have the bypass. I chose the sleeve. In hindsight, the bypass would have been the best surgery for me.

Revision to bypass date is fast approaching! May 29th! :)

I'm 3 months post op and love my sleeve. I'm down over 50 lbs, and rarely feel hungry. YMMV, but for me it has been nearly all positive!

I'm also pre sleeve, I'm 3 weeks away. I'm a big researcher before i do anything, I've read that the majority of people regret there sleeve in the first month because its the hardest. Then after time it gets better as things start to feel a little more normal. This is what i've told myself to expect so that way i don't get discouraged you just have to remember all the reasons you wanted to do this in the first place. Good Luck!

I am in my first month and I have a lot of regrets. However, I realize that a lot of folks regret their sleeve in the first month. I have nausea every morning, and Constipation, I was having acid issues but they seem to have lessened. It is really nothing major. I am just frustrated at the lack of progress. I am starting at a higher weight than most people so I expected to lose more my first month. It is hard to know you forever altered your body and left yourself open for some pretty heavy side effects and not see results. Hoping in the long run this was the right decision. But only time will tell. I wish you luck, this is not a decision to be taken lightly.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
