Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Uggh could someone please tell me why they let surgical centers post advertisements on the threads? Why don't they respond when I send a mod alert?! How do I get it removed it's annoying. To me it could fall under the paid to post.

Because even the mods aren't on here 24 / 7. I usually sign on around 6:00 PM, so any reported thing before then is just gonna have to wait.....even if it's a notification that I've won the "internet lottery".

Okay, I admit it: I guess I need to read up more about the swine flu to see what the heck all the panic is about. On average, 32,000 people a year die of the regular flu, and so far we are talking less than what, 50 people? What is so different about this strain?

Different because it's composed of different DNA. That means that everybody could catch it (even people that have recieved a regular flu shot). It's not a particulary strong strain (like you said, so far the mortality is way below regular flu), and the people that really have to worry about death are the usual customers.....the very young, the very old, and the immunocompromised. However, because nobody has immunity to the swine flu, it could be problematic (for instance, what if every doctor and nurse in town had the flu at the same time? Every policeman? Every soldier?) for the week or so until our bodies can shake it.

OMG.....I want to toussle her hair!!!
What a cutie!!! (Not you, Plain!!)
Heartfire, your daughter is GORGEOUS!! And I'm with Plain -- I want to toussel her hair too!

Thanks! I've always got my hands in her hair! LOL! There are time where she'll pull away and shake her hair and tell me to get out! LOL!

My best friend is so freaked out about swine flu. I mean she is prone to a touch hypocondrism anyhow and now she is driving me mad. Finally last night I told her it was going to be the end of humanity. Poor girl nearly had a panic attack at the store when someone sneezed near her. It's funny but it's not. And maybe it is because I am not a germaphobe that I really just don't care? I am considering putting together a swine flu care package for her complete with masks and gloves and maybe some Spam. Just because I love the girl but have to be snarky about it.

Poor thing! She must spend so much time trying to avoid things! If she keeps it up, she's going to end up getting sick all the time. Which will, of course, prove her point! (In her mind!) LOL!

I think a care package is a wonderful idea!!

It's a slow news week?

You're probably right!

I understand taking precautions and doing what you can to avoid getting it. BUT I am not going to panic.

PJTP: I got filled back up today! Whoo Hoo! According to his scale, I didn't gain any weight since I'd last been in, 3 weeks ago, which was 4 days before the emergency unfill.

He'd left 1cc in, (didn't know that) and he put 4cc in today. So back up to 5cc. I was up to 6.25 at emergency time. No big. Fill levels don't really matter. I just like to know what's in there.

I'm taking it easy. Had Soup tonight and will probably finish the week w/a combination of liquids and soft foods.

Good night!

Sorry I guess I am just used to forums that have certain people that are available certain times of the day and such. No biggie. It's just that she knows she can buy herself a certain amount of advertising time LOL

Just irritates me to see them using the system.

Came home from church to find out that because of the swine flu and 2 cases being found here all schools are closed till Monday/ or further notice. The school that it was found in will be closed 7 days. Which means I won't be working again. I have been with a temp service doing cafeteria work at the schools. I have yet to get a full week in. I have only been with them a month. My bills are killing me right now. they are supposedly going to find something for the summer for me.

Sometimes things fall through the cracks too. Like each mod thinks another mod took care of it.

So the school district my children's school is in is closed for the next two days for a suspected case of swine flu. But my kids ahve school since it is a charter school and not actually part of that district. And I just realized my coworker was in Mexico a few weeks ago for vacation lol. And I am still not freaked out. Right now the flu to me is equivelent of a week or so of pain to drop 10 pounds quick. Is that a bad attitude to have?

swine flu is all over the TV's in NTX.

16 cases, 1 death - 2 major school districts closed (including fort worth), all sporting events (schools) suspended thru may 11th.

and just like TX with a snow storm predicted & you can't get bread or milk - right now you can't get any purell...guess i'm glad i'm sorta housebound.

i do remember susan.

she was *texting*, and i let the first one slide - then it happened again and i shoved her cart, didn't flinch. the third time i picked up my 2% milk and DH grabbed my arm and she finally looked up.

i get she wasn't looking down & paying attention, but goodness i know when i bump into someone. just in a pissy mood and i wanted to hurl some milk....

your sweet g4e

You were going to throw the milk at her?? I love it!!

Well, if it had been a lady (and MY injured foot) I would have politely asked her to please refrain from hitting my injured foot with her cart. If it had been a dude, I would politely have said "2 bumps with your cart are free. The next one means one of us is leaving with a wupped ass"......then I would have screamed like a schoolgirl and done that wild slappy thing that fighting chicks do.

Plain, you absolutely crack me up. :):blink::lol:

Actually I did technology free weekend starting Thursday evening. It was great and I really needed to do it because it helped me break the strangle hold of FB addiction. It still has a hold, but it's not strangling me so much.

Susan - glad to hear the health issues are starting to get diagnosed properly and treatment plan going into action.

I'm definitely a "reward" eater. Lately, I've been on a chocolate kick with the consequence of complete stall on the weight loss. *sigh*

I cannot do a technology free hour, let alone weekend.

Brandy, sorry it went so long. After just returning to work after having been out for the better part of April, I got insanely behind and haven't been on as much as I normally am due to trying to get caught up. I promise, we will do a better job of staying on top of things.

Sorry to all the mods. I was just irritated with her. That's all. It's gone

Thanks!

Lulu- Yer right atleast you're house bound and you have some acreage between you and the world.

Fortunate for me I do not read the news or watch it. I like being naive to what is going on with the world (Except when I read up for voting) I try not to fall into the media trap.

What few numbers I have seen on accident appeared to be much lower than the average flu virus so I dunno what the hype is and probably don't wanna.

It doesn't seem to me that the swine flu is as serious as all the constant attention it is getting. The media goes crazy sometimes.

My friend just called me and said she was considering not taking her daughter to the dance studio for pictures today because of the flu. Then yelled at me for saying she was overreacting. Ummmm, she is not shopping at the stores until late at night and wanted to go buy some masks today. She is refusing to go to church because that is too many people in a small space. And wants to skip pictures because of the swine flu that has infected 2 people in our whole entire state? LOL

We have a Dr here that does a part on the local news. He put it like this.

If you went out into your town and gathered 100 people, and put them all into a room with a person infected with a strain of the flu we are used to seeing, and allowed them to wander around, a good percentage of those people would get sick. However a fair amount of them would have had a flu shot---and could therefore help and assist those who had not, without fear of infecting themselves, and get through it.

On the other hand if you put those people in the room with a person with Swine Flu, it is HIGHLY contagious from person to person, and NO ONE in that room has been given a flu shot that will help. The entire room could in effect be sickened by the spread from the one person---and all in a short amount of time.

In a Dr.'s office for instance if a patient comes in, the receptionist, the nurse, and the Dr. are all infected at the same time and could fall ill at the same time, effectively closing the practice as there is noone left to care for the ill.....and those that attempt to help, are open to infection, as there is no flu shot to help avoid the germs.

Same with child in school, everyone they come into contact with on the day they are contagious, could become ill at one time.....and it just snowballs.

It is not any deadlier than any other flu around, there is just not much of a way of avoiding it, if you are around it!

The loss of life in MX is mostly due to poor health and poor health care in the areas it began. They have not sought health care in a timely manner. It is mostly a danger to the very young, the very old, and those with immune problems prior to getting the Swine Flu. Most of us who might get it, will cope with it, same as we do any other bout with the flu or a virus, and feel like crap for a few days, and get well again. We are in a country that we know if we are dehydrating, to head to the hospital for IV's. And we take special care of our young and old.

I am not afraid of it---it makes more sense after looking into it. I am being more cautious with washing my hands frequently at work----which is saying something, since I washed VERY often before anyway!!! But....I will not run in fear, nor wear a mask, when I have little belief that it will help me avoid it!!

And if I do get it, I will whine to all of you about it!!! LOL

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
