I don't understand the experiences you are having regarding knowing your fill - my doc, and clinic give each patient a little card and hold the patient accountable to recording each fill and unfill - date and amount. Their reasoning, in the event you travel somewhere and need an unfill or some untoward event occurs you as the patient should be able to tell the doc not only that you have a band, and where the port is etc, but exactly how much liquid is in it so that they know! I am bad for remembering to take my card with me and they give me grief each time as they make me fill it out from the start - ALL the dates and the amounts in and out.

that's a great idea~

i understand docs don't want patients to get fixated on that number - but lets face it .. it's ALL about the NUMBER, if not the fill but the scale.< /p>

That is the reason I wanted to know about my fill. If I ever have to go to another doctor, I couldn't tell them anything other than I have a band with some fill in it.

That is what my doc's office says. They don't want us fixated on the amount of fill or comparing with other patients. I can understand that, but I would like to know for myself.

I just don't see what the number comparison would be...do they fear that if two people each have a 10cc band, they will argue over what the cc volume should be?

I can't see it myself, but then again, I'm not competitive...and as stated, I'm not very diligent about carrying my card. As long as there is sufficient that I can eat, but not too much so that I can't swallow my spit, I'm good.

As cruel as it sounds, we can't always help the terminally stupid. I get that the poster got some bad advice, but a little common sense goes a long way here. No liquids = bad. Very bad. Who doesn't know that? Going in complaining about a possible "slip" is the worst thing one could do. It prejudices the doc's opinion. Blue Monkey should have said that she couldn't keep down any Fluid and was worried about dehydration.....especially as it sounds (in my unqualified opinion) that she has a GI bleed going on somewhere.

thats unsafe even w/out a band to go that long w/out fluids.

she'll end up in the ER w/her drs advice - DUMB.!.

Exactly.

I just like to be involved in my care . . . anything they don't want to tell me just seems silly. It is not like I will run around saying "Ive got more fill than you"

I understand....and if you want to know all the details, then you should. I think the danger in knowing fill levels is that some people (not you, obviously) may think "it took Jane Doe 7ccs to get to restriction, so I can't possibly be feeling tight at only 5ccs".

Speaking of which I have 0 fill right now and it kinda sucks, but I am getting by, lol. It is just a reminder of why I needed a band in the first place . . . because I was HUNGRYYYY!!!!

Well you ARE eating for two (or more....heehee.....I like the sound of "The OctoHeather"...)

I was a little harsh

that was my concern as well - just didn't trust the pincers; he must know what he's doing ... on side note, no WAY could i look like a mangina - the girls & booty still exist in plenty.:)

Eww, "mangina"

heartfire - so sorry about the PB episode, i would stay on fluids for a few days to reduce the swelling.

Hurts SO badly, doesn't it? Ugh.

ColoradoChick, I am happy to hear that Shane is doing better and might be going home :0).

Amen!

I also hate when they don't want to tell you how much fill you have, regardless of relevance.

My old GP wouldn't tell me my TSH (thyroid levels). Um excuse me but that's MY blood you're testing, tyvm. My surgeon tells me how much fill he puts in. I keep it as a note in my blackberry!!!

As cruel as it sounds, we can't always help the terminally stupid.

But why does there have to be so damn many of them?!? :)

Ooops.....mea culpa! I didn't look at her age. I was still wearing footy pajamas and drinking warm milk @ 19. I won't even go into how my mom used to take my temp....

I just want to state, for the record, I think I would get a complete unfill if I had the opportunity to go to Paula Deen's restaurant. Just so I could get the unlimited southern buffet. Hell I might even eat some collard greens.

Oh and I just made some ooey gooey butter cake for those of you not reading my insane number of updates on my culinary skills. Effing amazing. I might need new pants.

Drive by posting... I WANT BUTTER CAKE!!!

For the record, I totally think it would be possible to drink it through a straw. But completely against everything we are doing here. I am taking it to work tomorrow to fatten up my co-workers. Plus it is probably the first thing I have found that is so rich I can't eat more than a few bites.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
