I wouldn't doubt it. We do have family in California. hmmmm

Well if he pretended to be French Canadian but really wasn't and is German - well then you're getting warmer!

Yeah my Great Grandfather loved the Native and/or Mexican women too. He has lots of families all over the US and Canada... ROFL!!!!

hey i got bambi's foot too -

can't help what the dogs bring in as souvenirs .,...

As for the souvenirs, I've had a few things dragged in to me over time - besides the assortment of (mostly) dead mice, birds, rabbits...altho' one dog brought in a fresh baked pie, still in the pan...

The lab brought in a fresh dead bird once and laid it on DD's bed. I could hear her make an "ugg" noise when she just thought it was a wet toy, then she got closer and I could hear the screams of disgust loud and clear.

I don't think the dog liked DD's reaction too well - she's never brought back another gift again. :) Lucky for us!

As a child, my uncle was a butcher and I used to "help". When I was really young, I wanted to save parts of Bambi and I saved the legs where he'd sawed them off at above the knee.

I saved them in a bag, and mysteriously the bag-'o-legs disappeared when I went to bed that night.

If this thread came to life I think I'd be institutionalized...some of the images (thanks Plain) are just toooooo much to handle IRL let alone adding the dramatic flourishes of dreams!

Ladies puh-leeze! Quit with the dreaming and fantasizing about me. I know it's tempting....But I'm just too damn sexy! *wets fingertip and places on hip, then makes sizzling sound*

I'm a little nervous delving into my family history. I'm not sure why.

Because you might find out that your family legally changed the family name from "Hitler"?

I am French / Creek / Jewish / Caucasian / African-American on my mother's side, and African-American / Choctaw / Caucasian / ? on my father's side.

My mother's side: German and first generation Australian immigrant

My dad's side: German and Cherokee

PJTP...

My apprehensions about my job seem to be dead on...I've just been told that there is a meeting scheduled tomorrow at 9:30 am with the Director of Human Resources for the part of the college that I work for, and that I am to attend.

It's about the "upcoming changes in my job description" (quote not exact) because we are moving from a paper application to an electronic one. I'm curious and wary, because a change to my job description should probably also have been cleared through our union. I fired off an email to my union person, and they will have someone there at the meeting with me. I'm sure that won't go over well, but at this point, and with all the changes going on around here, plus the history of acrimony between my employer and the unions, I'm not taking any chances.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I know I don't want to walk in there and get blindsided. I half-jokingly asked if I needed to wear my asbestos underwear, and when I got a confused look from my manager (she's from Trinidad and may not understand the phrase) I asked if I was in trouble. She didn't give me a really straight answer, just said that the meeting was to make sure that everyone was clear on expectations.

I'm VERY wary of this...not sure why the short notice, but I'm going in there loaded for bear, so to speak. I'm going to bring a copy of my latest performance review with me, and have a pad and pen for taking copious notes. Any changes that are to be made probably should be made in writing for the protection of all parties.

The fact that we're meeting with the HEAD of human resources and not the lower-level contact person that I always talk to on hr issues makes me very wary.

We'll see what happens...I'm wearing my power suit tomorrow for additional confidence!

Go in there with confidence and don't let them intimidate you! You're a pretty sharp chick.....you can seperate the bullsh*t from the legit. It would make me feel a little better knowing my meeting was with the head of HR. They generally know how to avoid the landmines.

PJTP~ Should I get an

Escalade, Denali XL, or Suburban!? I like them all

Hey, aren't you from Oregon? I thought everybody up there only drove hybrids? lololol

OMG! I would think we are related! Only my Grandfather changed the First three letters of his last name.

It's pretty common. My family had to change the surname from DerHugegenitals. It sounded too ethnic, so they changed it to Massivedaddyparts. Much better.

I can't go past two days with left overs. I shudder at the thought.

Same here. We really dislike "used food" in our house.

both great advice.!.

ptjp - i had oysters yesterday and the trippiest dreams ever. this thread came to life in it:)

need more coffee to wake up i guess - LOL

I thought oysters were aphrodisiacs, not dream makers?

Although DH and I are both from coastal locations, we are not big fish eaters. Real tuna/salmon are wonderful, and many of the white fish, but shellfish we can take or leave. For me, the flavor of shellfish is fine, it is the texture that I can't stand...sorta like garbage bags (or at least how I imagine they would be to chew).

The only "fish" I like is clam strips, Alaskan snow crab legs and tuna fish. I have a helluva craving for tuna fish right now.

Plain, once again you have left me nearly speechless. Speechless_Emoticon_by_homicidalxfish.gif

Now, will someone please get me some clear liquid tuna fish!

my big lab stole a smoked turkey right from a family reunion party. needless to say DH and i had to order pizzas for them...

That's a lab for you! **I miss my lab, but NO MORE PETS**

PJTP...Thanks for all the good wishes...rabbit's feet, lucky charms, prayers, influence from the ancestors and the elements, all are welcome!

I hope things went well...

I know my grandmother was married 9 times and I don't even know who my real grandfather was. Then both of my parents followed the same trend and now have been married 4 times each. I have multiple siblings that I know are out there but don't really know and none of my parents keep in touch with them.

Beyond belief! My family back for the 6 generations they have been in this country (mat and pat) are both of the 1 marriage lasting 50 or more years. My parents almost made it to that, but my father died 3 weeks before their 50th.

Thanks for the tips, Plain - confidence has not been my strong suit all my life, but since I turned 40 I've adopted a take-no-sh*t attitude, and I'm definately taking THAT into the meeting this morning!

eww, that is so gross.

 It's supposed to be up to 80 here today, according to my phone blippy that gives the weather.

PJTP - Last night I flipped out on DD. We went for a bike ride, came home and she went to the park w/her friends. (The park is one block down, where the community pool is and I can see it from the house.)

I went inside and took a shower, changed into "comfy clothes" and started dinner. I saw that I had missed her phone call by seconds, so I hit return call and NOTHING. I called her over and over and over. I sent a text - nothing. I thought, she'd just called me, so what had happened?

So, I'm calling, calling, calling and getting my shoes on, grabbing my keys, getting in the car. I can see the park and I see her 2 friends that she had been with walking on the other side, but no DD.

So, I drive around the corner and she's sitting on the far side of the park (the part I can't see) and just laughing and having a good time. I call one more time, then put the car in park and start to get out.

Another friend of hers saw me and she pointed, then DD looked her phone. Next thing, my phone is ringing. I told her to come home NOW. (She is SO lucky I didn't make it to her in front of her little friends. She'd have hated me for years over what I would have done.)

So...I went home, she came home and I gave her a list of chores to do. She asked why and I said because when I call, you answer. She asked if she could just get a warning instead of this punishment, and I said, "Oh, child. Child. Child.... THIS IS THE WARNING!!!"

Duh!

I was, I think, 3 or 4 at the time...so I blame my strange little child ID on that one. I vaguely remember the legs, but I do remember it.

I also picked up the severed head from the ground and talked to it, telling him he'd be fine. I was told I kissed it, too. I don't remember that one, but my uncle and his friends loved telling me that story.

All. The. Time.

Talk about embarassing your 16 year old niece with her new boyfriends!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
