Question: when did uh-huh become the accepted response to 'thank you'?

I think it might be a generational thing? People are apt to be overly polite here in my East Texas area.....except for the teens (now I sound like my grandparents). Damn those rowdy teens and that Elvis they listen to!!

I have some exciting news, well, for me anyways. I have a date scheduled for my revision to the sleeve. I leave here on April 1st and will have my surgery with Dr. Aceves on April 2nd and return back home on the 5th. I am so excited. I go next week for a complete unfill. Then, seven days before my surgery I am on liquids only. Wish me luck guys!!

Sure you don't want to go to Betancourt (mod joke)? Seriously, good luck. Will you be twittering during that time? lol.

In my family, people keep their hair forever, but go gray early. I'm the big exception. I didn't start to have noticeable gray until a couple of years ago.

I'm starting to gray around my temples. The wife like it, but.....I can't be the temple-gray dude and smoke a pipe. Then I'd have to change my name to "Ward Clever".

Hi guys I'm tired I'm going in to work tonight my 3rd 12hr shift in a row..yuck

Suck it up! I work 4 12's a week, ya baby!! Of course, I do get every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.

Went to see "Watchmen"

How was it? *Geek alert* I read the comic books in the late 80's, when I was in college. It was kind of a heavy storyline in the comic.....was it in the movie?

Good morning all..had a nice night last with my girl except the part where I drank to much and drunk dialed pilot boy...

Heehee.....I had a little dally with a monster hangover this weekend too. Went to downtown Dallas and drank too much. Apparently, being banded interferes with my ability to throw up the next day, because that's what I needed, yet was unable to do.

Nevar! pwnd by salt

Lolz @ ur pwndage

You are SOOOOOO lucky! Wonder how I can get DH to that mindset

Tap, I already referenced the "naughty schoolgirl" outfit. 60% of the time, it works every time.

It's being taken care of.

So... who you ignorin'?

:crickets:

I have a question. Have any of you tried Nutrisystem since banding so that you don't have to think of something to eat everyday? I am thinking about something like that because I am out of ideas of food to eat.

Not since WLS but back when I got engaged. I lost 70 lb. with them. The food SUCKS. Really bad. Plus, it's kind of expensive.

South Beach makes frozen dinners that are okay. All the other "diet" frozen dinners have too many carbs and not enough Protein for me.

Girl, you are a s l u t, bless your heart.

I experiment all the time. My DH seems to enjoy most of it. My DS is a stick but a very healthy eater so will eat most anything. My DD, on the other hand, won't eat anything but PB&J sandwiches, chips, hamburgers and chicken nuggets. We have a rule that she has to take at least one bite of everything at the dinner table and after that if she still doesn't want to eat it, then she can have a PB&J. She did eat mussels and enjoyed them a great deal when we went to Carrabas the other day so maybe she's finally graduating up?

i'm making cabbage stew today.

As with others, recipe please?

I have 3 shelves in 1 cupboard for just spices and 2 cupboards above the stove... It's ridiculous.

Spices above the stove? Not a good place for them; too much heat and humidity. I too have one cupboard 4 shelves high with cooking spices; another cupboard has 2 shelves dedicated to baking spices. LOVE to cook and bake.

I will follow a recipe the first time. After that, I will change it

I will always follow a recipe the first time; after that it's a free-for-all...sometimes great results, othertimes the result is a taste disaster...but that's what cooking/baking is - experimentation. And I ALWAYS make one new dish every week...so many recipes, so little time!

Sounds like my 28 year old husband. I curse his father for not developing his palate beyond that rubbish as a child and teenager because it means I am restricted in the food I can cook at home for the two of us. Keep trying to get her interested in other flavours/textures, you never know she might try something "exotic" one day and it will unlock her desire to experiment a little!

Wouldn't the same approach work on DH? My ex used to have a very boring/repetitive/juvenile appreciation for food. It took a few years but eventually the menu selection expanded, and there was more experimentation...but it took small incremental baby steps..."here dear, let's try adding one grated carrot to the meatloaf; I know that's not how you are used to having it made, but you like carrots, right? You like meatloaf? Well, let's just try one itty-bitty carrot grated up really tiny, and you taste it."

Thank heavens DH loves to eat and loves to cook....

I'm starting to gray around my temples. The wife like it, but.....I can't be the temple-gray dude and smoke a pipe. Then I'd have to change my name to "Ward Clever".

HM...generational? Maybe, but other respondents make me think it may be a geographical thing. And as for Ward Cleaver, you would have to wear a nice cardigan too...

As long as it isn't a lifestyle!:crying:

Good morning everyone. I know you are all excited to hear that yes indeed, it is snowing again here in the land of long underwear and mittens........:cursing:

Morning! Snow again? When do you all stop having snow? Or should the question be, do you ever stop having snow?

PJTP that it's a gorgeous morning here in my neighborhood...course my great attitude might have something to do with the fact that I visited DH at work last night (he's on midnight shift) and had my own booty call. :w00t: :tt1: :w00t:

I highly recommend marriage to a spouse that isn't afraid to experiment...

and that's all I'll say about that! :tt2:

I am a mean mom... I cook what I cook and figure they can eat it or not eat it  They will get hungry enough to eat it eventually I am sure lol.

For that both my kids eat a wide variety of foods and often think the foods are bland when they don't eat at home.

Beth- I was the big meanie the other day and got flamed for giving someone my 2 cents... apparently it's suppose to always be warm and fuzzy. I missed that disclosure...

:tt1::tt2: Yes, once spring is finished (there's always af ew little flurries in late spring). So, sometime the end of May...

I visited DH at work last night (he's on midnight shift) and had my own booty call. :w00t: :w00t:

Way to go!!!

Hope he isn't a transit bus driver, or air traffic controller or something where you need to be 'all work, no play"!!

Yep, my parents were all about choices at dinnertime : eat it or go hungry!

Damn, don't you hate it when there are rules that everyone else knows???

Nope - nothing like that...thank goodness!

My parents were like that too...none of that "starving children in Africa would eat this" stuff, either. Either you ate what was cooked, or you didn't eat!

I'm a little like that, I guess, but not as strict as my parents. I do allow the other two adults in my house to eat pretty much what they like (within reason) but if they make the mess, they have to clean it up!

My family has been great about eating band-friendly food - in fact, we're all getting slimmer since I got my band since they eat healthier now. DH is down 15 pounds, and DD is down 10 or so...

Morning all....Drive by posting: DH and I are trying to sell our home and buy another one.

I'm kinda MIA lately, between work being a little hectic and this new stress of home-searching/selling/buying, I'm going out of my mind.

No snow here, 'course, but we had some rain, which cooled everything back down into the 70's. (I know, right...CHILLY.)

BL thread - WTH? That just pissed me off. I want to meet these pristine angels face to face and find out what they're really like. Unless they really are the right hand of God, then leave me the F alone.

ha ha ha....did I mention stress?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
