Glad to hear you're doing well! My pre-op diet is Protein Shakes only. Pretty much dreading that!

No chicken broth, sugar free Jello, or yogurt? I am so sorry! 😩

Question for the group:

Now that we are chugging through Summer and members are beginning to have their surgeries, what do you think about having a separate thread dedicated to post-op discussions?

I don't want to lose the momentum of this thread, but it is getting somewhat bulky with the number of introductions of people checking in. I think it would be nice to have a clean thread for the post-op support we'll want.

Thoughts? Love it? Hate it?

I’m not opposed to it

I'm all done! Anesthesia makes me super sick so I was a whiny baby for a few hours after surgery but now I just feel sore and a little gas pain in my shoulder. Morphine pump is probably helping on that front 🤣🤣

Not even sugar free popsicles, that is torture! I guess you’re going to have to change up the flavors of the shakes

I may be able to sneak a few popsicles as I can have low calories liquids but its primarily just 5 Protein Shakes.

I started this journey 2 months ago, meeting with a doctor at the lifestyle medicine center. I've lost 20+ lbs. I'm feeling better. I went on vacation and was able to stick to my new eating habits. I began having second thoughts about the surgery. Last night, I had my second sleep study using the CPAP. As I was getting ready for the test I was reviewing all of the tests I have had done in the last 6 months. My asthma spiraled out of control last december and it took 5 months, many tests, 2 maintenance inhalers, 2 medications, my PCP and the pulmonologist to get it back under control. I realize that my weight was not the cause of my asthma but definitely didn't help.

Reviewing the test results I was reminded that my quality of life sucked and that if I want to have a healthy, good quality of life in 20 years, I need to address my weight. So I am no longer having second thoughts, I am excited that I only have one more nutrition class, a few visits with the psychologist (since I failed my first eval in April) and 30 days on the CPAP. I've completed many steps to the healthier version of me. I hope to be scheduled by the end of August. :) This message board has been so encouraging! I appreciate your stories and the way you've supported each other.

Congrats! And also good luck! I’m currently on the liquid diet. And I want something with salt in it and something I can chew so bad, lol

What about making "finger jello" it's firm and you could chew it and maybe like a boullion or Soup base for the salt? Just an idea.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
