Hi, I'm new here. Just did my psych eval yesterday, got my pcp letter last week, and should finish my preop stuff this month. I hope I can get approved and scheduled before school starts in Aug.

I am in the same situation- hoping to get my surgery scheduled before I have to go back to work in the fall. Are you a teacher?

@TexasGal I heard today from Jessica my case manager/facilitator at OSU. She still needs 30 day electronic documentation that I use my CPap at least 4 hours when I sleep. Then after that it's meet the surgeon and have your surgery. So I will be a JULY firecracker after all.😛

So I'm interested in opinions from you all. I have my last nutrition class this Friday. This is the class where the go into detail about how to eat post-surgery, why it's so important to eat that way, and why its crucial to maintain a proper diet and exercise for life.

My nutritionist suggested that my husband come along because I told her that he is one of my biggest obstacles. He eats like a teenage boy, doesn't care about being healthy, and cares even less about exercising. She felt it would be beneficial for him to hear what is being discussed in the meeting. I absolutely agree with her.

He was actually on board to attend but now can't get the time off from work. I already have all the materials and I've talked to him some about my diet, but he hasn't done nearly the research I have. I do find information is more impactful when it comes from multiple sources so I'm bummed he can't attend.

What do you guys think I should do? Since I have plenty of time before my surgery, I was thinking about calling the center and asking if there is another session coming up that maybe would work better. I definitely want to attend the one tomorrow, but if we could both go again later on that would be best.

I'm really stressing over this because we watch My 600Lb Life and he yells at all the enablers on the show and talks a big game about what they should and shouldn't be doing. But I know him, and I know that when its our turn to be in that situation, he's going to see just how hard it really is to support me the way I need it. lol

I think going to a future appointment with your husband is a great idea. I think it’s a great way to include him. I think I’ll start doing the same thing with my husband

I’m up to the plate this Tuesday, June 5 after starting in October 2017! Nine months! And I still look pregnant! LOL. Did great the first few months with losing weight then we had a cancer scare in the family & I totally blew it. But even though I didn’t lose the weight, surgery still scheduled. My biggest fear is not the surgery but being able to follow the rules afterward. I feel like., if I didn’t lose weight pre op, what really makes me think I can post op? And the only reason I think I can is that I absolutely hate being nauseous & vomiting! Is that a bad reason to think this might actually work for me? Sometimes I think I should be having an operation on my brain instead of my stomach because my obesity has so much more to do with my psyche than my stomach! Everyone says I won’t be hungry anymore but hunger was always the LEAST of the reasons I ate & over ate! Guess I’m more scared than I thought!

Hi, I'm expecting to be a late June/early July bypass. My PCP just has to send note from my 6th visit and then wait for approval and a date. I'm having it done by Krikhely st Columbia Presbyterian in NYC.

I think I'm more nervous about the 2 week pre-than the post diet? I have had 2 c-secs and I hear this recovery is easier which is what's reassuring to me. I have a very bumpy couple of weeks ahead as my mom just went into a hospice. Obviously that's horrible but since I haven't told anyone in my family (other than my husband) that I'm having the surgery, I have been worried these events would be much closer together which fortunately I think they will be spaced far enough apart.

I'm very eager for the next stage of my life but also at times I think "Holy crap, under a month left?!"

Good luck to everyone else, looking forward to being in touch with others in a similar schedule :)

I started today. Mcdonalds chicken nuggets never looked so good. 😂

I honestly don't feel too bad, but it's day one!

I can totally relate!! Same exact fears- to a T!! My surgery is July 23 and I’m terrified lately. Getting sick is so horrifying to me!! I know tend to eat badly when I’m lonely or bored. Obviously need that to change!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
