Hi. Had my surgery yesterday at 8 a.m. I was really out of it until around 1:00 and then woke right up. Apparently the band placement and surgery went so well that I didn't need the barium swallow. I stayed in hospital overnight and finally got away this afternoon. Glad to be home. I'm up and moving around but it hurts at the incision sites in transitions between getting up or down. Laying down I can barely feel it. I have to walk quite slowly as well. Now, as for shopping a few days later, I don't think I'll be up to that - or cleaning my house. What's with you guys!! lol I have recurring pain in my shoulder which I am assuming is gas pain. It gets worse when I'm upright and goes away when I'm laying down. I didn't feel any nausea ever. I'm eating broth/jello/juice for my meals for the next 2 days and Water in between.

OMG I almost forgot to tell you guys. I was so scared on the drive in, but the second song on the radio, I kid you not, was "I'm Too Sexy". Can you believe it? I had to laugh at that. How appropriate. I was VERY scared and crying leading up to surgery time and so relieved to wake up again. I am so happy right now that it is over!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to the rest of you going in for surgery.

Linda

I am going back to work Tuesday as well. I don't think I will have any problems at all. Glad to hear that everyone is doing pretty good!

Linda - Yesterday was my worst day. I was in a lot of pain by my port incision and had a lot of gas. Today when I woke up I was a little sore but started moving around and I've felt great all day. I haven't had any pain medication since last night! I hope your pain is better soon!

Hi, Linda. It's great to hear from you! Your symptoms sound the same as mine. I was able to get comfortable unless I was getting up or down. I also had a low-grade fever the first two nights -- highest was 99.9. But no fever today and the swelling is down. I took regular Tylenol this afternoon and not the prescription Tylenol. And I'm feeling much better! I'm just a day ahead of you and it sounds like you're already doing well so keep up the good work! :)

Same for me! I was beginning to feel a little down this morning because I didn't feel that great and I can't believe how much better I feel now! And on regular Tylenol, too. :clap2:

Hi again. Since I've been home I've been walking around a lot more than in hospital and the pain is decreasing all the time. It's really helping with my shoulder pain (gas) as well.

I'm back from TJ, newly banded by Dr. Gonzalez!! I'm a bit uncomfortable, especially at my port site which is located mid-abdomen and at my left side....right where I would bend to pick something up. I was in surgery yesterday at 10:30am, and I remember finally waking up for good around 2pm. No pain at all yesterday, just bad gas under my xiphoid that I had to keep burping up. That is all but gone tonight, but now the incision pain has kicked in and it is uncomfortable.

I get to move to liquids tomorrow so I have my Magic Bullet and Protein shakes ready! I didn't think I would be hungry, but I am already, not sure what that is all about. Maybe it's because I haven't had anything but Water and apple juice in 48 hours? Dr. G would like to have me back in two weeks for a fill, but I'm thinking that I'll wait until the week after Thanksgiving. I go back to work on Wednesday for a 12 hr shift (I'm an ultrasound tech, so it isn't too stressful) and I think I'll be ready physically, anyway.

By the way, if anyone is doing this in a hospital, one thing that REALLY was a lifesaver was earpugs. Another thing I wished I had was an eyemask. I shared a room and the lights were on and off all night.

nessa, longhorn ... great to "see" you both back. I have a question. Did you have to do the barium swallow and go to radiology before you left to make sure the band is not to tight and in the right spot? My doc told me that I would have to do it. I can't imagine ...

Yes, I did, but it's a very small amount and was really easy. Until you mentioned it, I had forgotten that I did it!

Oh, this is too funny. I just realized upon reading back on this that I had a dream about this yesterday. Except for some reason in my dream, the barium swallow was before the surgery so they could have the Fluid sitting in my esophagus while they put the band on. Yeah - no sense. But anyway - I did the swallow and then was supposed to go to this other building immediately after to have the surgery done, but I got waylaid. I didn't get back in time for my surgery, so they pushed me off. :think LOL - Obsessing much about this whole thing?!? Ugh. I'm dreaming about it, now. I think as this thing gets closer, I just read more and more and more on this board preparing myself and it's saturated my brain. LOL

Yesturday was the day. We had to be at the hospital by 6:00a.m. so was up early, took a shower and left for the hospital. Once we got there they took us to this holding room. Everyone was really nice and made the time go really relaxing. Then got my hand poked and hooked up. The anethesologist came by and asked me quesitons and again eased my mind. Then it was time to go for a ride. Once in the operating room I could hear everything everyone was saying. Some nurses were in the corner talking about the bands. I asked again if I was getting the new band, they said yes. It took me a little longer to go to sleep then they expected. I kept hearing them say "breath" then I was out.

Next thing I knew I was in recovery. This is where my story makes sense. In June my family went to Colorado for vacation. It was on top of the mountain after a struggling hike that I told myself I have to do something. I can no longer lie to myself and say being 100+lbs overweight is fine. There began my journey to the lap-band. In the recovery room they had pictures on the ceiling to look at. Mine was the MOUNTAINS! It was my sign that this is what I needed to do and everything will be alright.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
