Undies question....

No, for reasons already stated my Dr does not want his patients to stay overnight. Not only that but everyone admitted for surgery and goes under automatically gets labeled as a high fall risk for legal reasons. That means that you are unable to walk or get out of your bed without the assistance of a nurse. Which also means that you do not walk around right after surgery. He prefers to send his patients home due to less rates of infection, more movement, and its generally better for the patient. I actually preferred this method because I slept in my own bed and had my swallow test and was able to eat ice chips not long after coming out of surgery. Wife and I both work in healthcare and trust me you do not want to stay in the hospital longer than you have to!:D

This is good info! I was wondering this myself. I’m doing self pay outpatient and was curious how it was possible. Thanks for sharing!

Well that's good to know, now I can resume my other PreSurgery worries and nightmare dreams.😪

I was offered the paper undies but went without. I find it easier to not worry about undies until after my first shower after surgery.

My surgeon relayed that it could be done as same day surgery also, about the same risks as a gall bladder removal which is typically same day as long as it's done laproscopically (and not open). My surgeon prefers patients stay overnight due to feeling that managing the symptoms post op can be tricky, and the nurses do a good job of helping you figure out how to manage your pain and stay hydrated and any other things that might come up that first night. I have to say I had a great experience and was happy to have the watchful eyes of the nursing staff. I am biased though as I am a nurse myself.

When I had my plication done, i wore some but I can’t remember if they were my own or those disposable hospital ones. The plication came undone so I had to have it reversed, and I remember I didn’t wear any for the that procedure. I was unsure if I was meant to or not.

Love the phrase " Butterball🍗 Naked" describes the way you are during surgery!

I’m bringing the comfortable cotton undies I wear during my time of the month and some loose PJ/yoga pants for after I can change.

Aunt Flo showed up the night before surgery, for me, so I got to wear the special underpants with a hospital-issued pad. They appeared to have been cut? at some point? when I got up to my room, at which point I changed into my own undies and pad. (My team doesn't do catheters.)

Pick something loose to come home in and you won’t care whether or not your have them on until you go home. Ask for two hospital gowns. Wear one correctly and the other like a bathrobe

I wore comfy clothes when I had my surgery. When I was in my gown I was naked! 🙈 However I did wear a pair of granny panties on the way there and home.

During the surgery I had on a gown and hospital-provided compression stockings to help with blood clots. It was bit awkward having the nurse yank those up my thigh with no undies on.

After the surgery I stayed in both. I had brought a change of clothes and undies but didn't feel well enough to put them on until the next day. I was only allowed to walk when I was going to the restroom, so I went to the restroom a lot throughout the night. My bare butt was flashing to the world and I was too sore, tired, and disoriented to care.

At least my mom says I have a cute butt.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
