Anyone in the 9-12 week range?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just curious what folks are doing for caloric intake in this post op range? I was told by my NUT that the longer I can stay off carbs the better since you can’t go back easily once you do. Soooo I’ve stayed at the 5-600 range with the diet of lean meat, dairy etc and haven’t added anything

Reading a few posts that staying at a low caloric intake can backfire??

Thoughts?

My bypass was 12/2/2017. I’m eating anywhere between 700-850 a day in calories. My highest was 950 on a day I worked but I’m ok with that as my job has me on my feet walking. My surgeon wants me under 100grams of carbs daily but said 50 is best, and I’ve not really had an issue sticking with that.

The only times I’ve had problems eating reasonable calories is if I eat something that doesn’t sit well, and I don’t know it’s going to happen until it happens.

Im trying to get to 1000 calories intake of healthy lean Proteins, veggies, dairy and such. It is a bit difficult as I just cannot eat a lot and sometimes don’t have much appetite.

My bypass was 12/11. I developed an ulcer so I have a very hard time eating any food. I’ve had to stop all dairy and most fat as well as any citrus or tomatoes. The struggle I have is trying to take my medication and fit in my Protein and liquids. Any ideas? I have to take 9 pills in the am and 4 in the pm. I have a very hard time getting them all in! So my food is usually ground turkey/lean beef and some Soups. No carbs.

I had a sleeve on 12/12/17, so am a similar amount out from you. The bypass is obviously more restrictive, so I think your calorie intake sounds reasonable. I am averaging 800-1k calories per day. I do have days with 500 or 600 and sometimes 1200. I'm also in a no carb mode, so can easily hit my Protein goal in 500 calories. Some plans want more calories, so ask your nutritionist what a good target for you is. At my 2 month visit they said 800 - 1200 was ok, but didn't want to see me over 1200, so guessing a bypass might be just a little under that amount.

Thanks All.

Another question..... are folks eating by ounce or by cup? For example if I have ground turkey - 4 oz is like a cup or so which seems like a lot?? I can at it and am full afterward. It just looks like a lot and wonder if I should be measuring out like a half a cup versus ounces

I measure ounces. If it seems like alot. You don't have to eat it all. As some foods I eat less than 4 ounces.

I'll be 11 weeks post op tomorrow. I'm eating about 1000-1300 calories per day, on average. Not limiting carbs. I usually end up with about 80-100g of Protein and 100-150g of carbs per day. Still losing 2-3lbs per week.

I am 6'3" tall if that makes a difference.

I'm a little further out but it varies for me really. I can do about 1200 depending on the food I'm eating. but normally i'm at around 750 to 1000. I try to eat the meats and cheese's mainly the Protein first at every meal. Using some fats to help get the calories up and to make food taste better.

I was 581 in Jan

475 on surgery day

today i'm 405

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
