Shouldn't it really be our national motto? Maybe even of the world? Do you duty! Tan your fat!

Oh, man! You are just rubbing salt into the sunburn of those of us who are melanin-challenged! All my fat is unhappy fat! Fish-belly white or bright red are the only choices I get :( My natural skin color is closest akin to a fluorescent light bulb! Since all the public pools close at sundown, we put in our own pool so that the kids could swim after dark.

Aw man, I'm so sorry to hear that sweetie! ((hugs)) SPF 60 is my friend lol. I am seriously fish belly white and haven't tanned in over 7 years. I never get really "brown" or if I do, I haven't seen it since I was a kid!

And um, I'll be over at your place around 7pm to swim! ;) hehe

Fluffy, do you still limit your quantity to 1/2 cup or have you eased up on that as you increased calories?

Long drive from Houston, just saying . . . But you're welcome anytime. We can actually watch bats fly between the trees when we're in the pool.

We definitely do high-SPFs, but especially when the kids were little, it was just so hard to keep them totally covered. And anytime I missed a spot, the burns were horrendous.

We hang out at twilight for the bats in our pool, too -- they like the pool

Are you in the Hill Country? We're going to my sissie's house in New Braunsfels soon. Can't wait to hang out and tube. I'm gonna actually nut up and put a bathing suit on in PUBLIC! LOL! And will wear shorts and just hang! It's part of why I'm on a mission from God to "kinda" get a little color on my fish belly white arms. Especially the lymphedema arm. Have to watch sunburn like cray!

We used to get bats in our attic in New York.

Hi Orchids and Dragons from another Francis the Fluorescent, I am a redhead after all. I am so melanin challenged I came in 3 shades , burn-blister-peel, maybe by the summer's end I might rust. to a pale tan but even then it was more like continuous freckles.😟

I'm a red-head, too. 100% Irish, grandparents from the "old country" ;) Used to try to smush my freckles together, to no avail! Now my skin is a permanent ruddy tone - from years of sun damage. Dermatologists love me - I walk into their office and they start thinking about summer homes on the beach!

No you can also be called a Celtic Princess, I think we both qualify. Did you, know psoriasis is called the Celtic Curse, it's so exclusive,to us that it is indicative of an Irish or Scottish ancestry. My 2 sons names: Kevin, Bryan , if I hadn't stopped making babies I might have a Declan, Conon, Padraic,or Sean. I wanted a dozen kids, because I was an only. Main reasons I stopped. 1 Late hubby didn't want them, he was the other kind of only, he liked it. 2 My pelvis had gotten so arthritic and narrowed to extent,Bryan barely made it out and any more would be C- Section 3. My then-OB threatened me with a Poro Section, do you know what that is? I forget if you were one of the ones who said they were a nurse? In case you weren't or aren't I shall educate you. A Poro section means C Section and then immediate hysterectomy. Lovely man wasn't he? You go in to have a baby and come out spayed. Bah dump dump dump.
I think,my desire to teach and educate is a throw-back to my rotten boy cousins dancing around, pointing at me and chanting "I know something you don't know!" So I set out to become very smart on a multitude of things so they couldn' t, heckle me anymore.
Oh often we are scarred or influenced by our pasts. Got to figure they, wouldn't be too thrilled with a cousin who sat and wrote poetry, would they?
Dermatology,is one speciality where you never, get too sick and you never get well, that's a reason they rub their hands together, when we show up, we are always good for a rash or 2. 😡

Celtic Princess has a nice ring to it although Celtic Peasant would have been much more likely! I sure wish you lived closer. It would be great to hang out together!

For my boys, I stuck with apostles: Ian (John), Andrew and Thomas. My daughter is Theresa. So I've got the saints pretty well covered. I stopped having babies when they started coming in litters! Andrew and Thomas are identical twins and that was more than enough to scare me out of the baby-making business. Besides, I had them 2 weeks before I turned 37, so it was time for me to quit anyway. I was one of 5 and have 24 first cousins, so I always wanted a larger family. I didn't get married until I was 30, so I had to make quick work of it!

Yeah Greg Abbott probably put in an anti-littering law along with all of Texas other ones. Ron White of Blue Collar Comedy tour says other states are trying to abolish the death penalty, Texas has an Express Lane.
Thank you for the beautiful, compliment, I don't know when anyone else wanted to hang with me. I'm crying a little and smiling through my tears. Thank you,so so much!😝

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
