Anyone shy about their weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was sleeved on the 15th Nov 2017 and I’ve lost 22lbs so far which is great. Because I’m short the weightloss looks much more than it is (what a relief) BUT I’m finding that I’ve become shy and a bit uncomfortable about my weight loss. Everyone at work has been commenting and complementing me (I didn’t tell anyone that I got sleeved) to a point where it’s making me uncomfortable. On Tuesday I wore a dress which I wore way back when I was lighter and no one has seen the dress, new job, and everyone was making a fuss. It got to a point where I just sat at my desk for the rest of the day until I went home. The next day I went back to wearing my fat clothes to camouflage my weightloss.

I know that this is strange but has anyone gone through the same thing?

I'm just now starting to show slimming in my face, no where else yet. But I'm worried about it too. I just started my nursing school which is 2.5years with the same 100 people. So I know after summer break there will probably be a bigger difference and I don't wanna be fussed over. It makes me uncomfortable but I also haven't told anyone (other than family ofcourse) about my sleeve. I'm worried that as the weight drops off someone's going to ask what I'm doing. But hopefully I'll be more confident in myself as the weight comes off and I'll be more open to sharing my experience. :) best of luck!

That’s also the thing, I’m just back from 3 weeks annual leave so it’s a big difference to those at work. My face deflates as soon as I don’t eat carbs so with the all round healthy lifestyle it’s much slimmer. I’ve found myself letting people know I gym everyday so that I get less questions. A pregnant lady told me that I’ve transferred all my fat to her. Good luck with your journey, the whole cover-up is exhausting but it’s worth it on the weekend when you don’t have to see them :-)

Ugh. I dread going back to work. I will have been gone six weeks and thankfully I’m tall so my 50 pounds looks like other people’s 20 pounds but I know it’s noticeable. I was trying on my scrubs the other day and I refuse to go back wearing new scrubs and minus 60 pounds.

Not sure what I will say.

I own it. Doll myself up at work. Walk down the hallways like it's a runway and when ppl compliment how good I look or say wow you have lost so much weight. I say THANK YOU! I've lost 51lbs. I'm awesome right?! lol

I just own it. I am more confident and proud of how much i've lost and how i'm looking these days!

Obviously, everyone is different and others are shy or uncomfortable because we've hid from everyone and ourselves for so long in our old bodies. But now is the time to practice self love and own that you look great! xo

I understand. I am really uncomfortable with people commenting on my body, and it makes me feel self-conscious. I try to simply smile and casually say, "Oh, thanks," as I know people are trying to be kind and supportive. Then I shift the subject.

I imagine it will die down and things will go back to normal. When I had lost about 35 pounds, I got a flurry of comments in one week from different folks, probably because I started wearing some pants I had that hadn't fit before. Since then, it happens once a week or so and always catches me off guard, but I try to just go with it.

I also feel so uncomfortable with the attention. Then it gets so awkward because I don't know what to say or what I say is nonchalantly arrogant. Like I would say oh really thank you and then walk away seemingly stuck up but really I just feel uncomfortable and want to get away. I guess we have to get used to it. I also realize this issue is stunting my weight loss. I feel if I lose any more people will be ruthless with comments. Terrible mindset yet that's what I've discovered about myself. Wls is so hard. I also don't feel pride with my weight loss. Not a sense of accomplishment that I helped myself get better. Whereas if you did it the old fashioned way you feel so proud and accomplished you lost 10 lbs. Here I am 58 pounds less but feel like a cheater. Ugh I hate my analytical mind. I drive myself crazy sometimes.

I was thinking the exact same thing, if I had done it the old fashioned way I would have been proudly telling everyone about it and at times I do feel like a cheater but I also think that I could’ve never been on this healthy eating plan which I’m on for 8 weeks if it were not for the surgery. People fail even with the surgery because they go back to their old eating habits. I think our minds work overtime when it comes to weightloss, just so tiring.

Congrats! That’s a whole lot during a six week period. If I were you I’d have it altered, and only once you’re 50-70% of the way with your weight loss then get new scrubs.

Congratulations I was November 27th I lost 42 lbs and I'm still trying to work at it. I went back to my liquid diet to stay on track. My New Year's resolution is I made my front room into a gym so I won't become too lazy and I'm going to try to work out at least 3 times a week watch what I eat this is a lifestyle not a diet. Next week I'll be taking my second picture . And for my birthday this year I want to be 50 and Fabulous.

I will admit that the weight loss always being a major topic of conversation was something I had to adjust to, but once I made that adjustment, I have always basked in it. Losing 225 pounds is something that few people in life can do (though, admittedly, many don't have to). It is something to be proud of, and the conversations have been 100% positive and supportive.

So, in a nutshell, I LOVE it! :)

I hear you, it's really weird having people staring at your body and realizing they were thinking about your body beforehand (and now). But honestly, I just cheerfully say "thanks so much!" because I know they mean it as a compliment. Literally every time I go to the gym someone new comes up and compliments me. It's not every day that they see someone who lost 130 pounds! It's weird, but I try to think about it as a positive thing.

I’m definitely shy about my (almost) 55 lb loss. I only told my bff, hubby/daughter/mom and the friend that had the #vsg before me. So when anyone asks how I’ve “lost so much” or “what I’m doing” I simply thank them and if they pressure for an answer I say “I eat waaaaay less now” ;). I’m never in the mood to justify my decision to anyone, and the people that think this surgery was the “easy way out” don’t deserve my explanation anyway HAHA :)

So I had a Pure Protein birthday cake bar for my p.m. snack and it was anything but. yuck. I think the only bar I like is their chocolate salted caramel. Disappointing.

I am drinking the Syntrax Nectar Pink Grapefruit. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'm giving it a 3 to 4 for taste. I think that leaves me with only one shake left and that is the green apple I believe. I will have to decide what I want to order for my final decision. So many flavors though...

Tired the Syntrax Nectar Lemonade. Meh. It was okay but the foam/froth at the top kind of turned me off but I drank some of it.
My husband, who will also be having VSG surgery next year, has been going to his nutrition classes so he wasn't home for dinner so i didn't have to worry about what to make him. I made Kraft mac and cheese for my son and well, I took about 5 big tablespoon out of the bowl as he ate his. Yes, I confess, I was doing so well! I didn't beat myself up though. I just know now, I can't be doing that anymore! I did add it to my Bariastic app. as I am tracking everything I eat and drink. Needless to say, those 5 tablespoon took 125 calories that quick!! I thought to myself, was it really worth it?! When I was in the moment, yeah, it was but I then why am I here in the first place?
After I put my son to bed, I drank the rest of the lemonade. I give it about a 3. I had blended with just water and ice cubes. I'm thinking if ice was in my glass without blending, it probably would have tasted better. Trial by error, I suppose.
This morning, I had the Syntrax Nectar Twisted Cherry. I blended at work with a banana. I give this one a 3. Kind of reminded me of children's cough syrup. I mean it wasn't horrible but I liked some of the flavors better. I already had a protein bar around 10am but it's already 11:07a.m. and I don't have lunch for another hour.
I was going to have my meal for dinner but I think I may just have it for lunch instead. I'm thinking a nice salad with some hard boiled egg for protein. Probably run to my local grocery store and get one from the salad bar they have! Just taking it one day at a time!

My oldest son Just got home from deployment in the middle east. I missed him and am looking forward to spending some time with him.  He wants to go to Nebraska Furniture (north of us near where his sister lives) to look for a new dining room table for his house.  I will for sure be getting my steps in and my daughter has better furniture taste than I do, so that will help as well.  My stomach feels 100% better knowing he is safe (as long as we avoid I 35 construction haha).

That's wonderful that your son is getting to come home and I hope you have a wonderful visit. Please thank him for his service and thanks to you for your service as well! I didn't think there was anyway to avoid the I-35 construction, short of growing wings. Good luck with that ;)

Lunch time was my yummy dinner from last night. I made homemade turkey chili. I know, it's the middle of summer but I wanted something hardy and that was perfect with some sliced avocado & a tad of shredded Mexican cheese. YUM! I found the recipe that was titled "the best turkey chili recipe you will ever eat" and in fact, it was!
My shake this afternoon is the Syntrax Nectar Kiwi Strawberry with a banana. I brought in my magic bullet blender to work since it's light and portable. I used water this time instead of the almond milk. Sipping it now at my desk, it's pretty good. I'd give this one a 5! The banana takes over and taste just like strawberry banana shake. Yum!
Not quite sure what I am planning on tonight for dinner but since I had my main meal for lunch, it will consist of a dinner shake and a p.m. snack after (protein based of course- probably 2 hard boiled eggs.
10 more days until surgery... I really hope my liver is teeny tiny from all of this!
