Any February Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Pain has gone down incredibly much, the only issues is the gas but finally was able to pass some gas on my own so that has helped a lot each day gets easier! I do miss food though [emoji20]

I had a lot of pain yesterday as well. I went back to school on Wednesday which I think was a mistake. I woke up in pain with a headache and very nauseous. I ended up throwing up all my Vitamins and had slow going day. I still have had pains in my shoulders and trying to get all my Water in but with the Protein Drink it seems almost impossible.

Hello, I a new to the group. My surgery was February 8. I was supposed to be home on Saturday 10th but had some complications. I was in until Monday the 12 and at first was definitely having the regrets. But now, I just entered stage two of the recovery food and I am feeling much better. Still take pepcid very morning but that is the only meds I am on. The reflux has subsided as with the nausea. I am now down 20 pounds since the beginning of this journey. I lost about 7 pounds preop and 12.6 since the surgery which was a week ago today. I am very happy now but have some concerns about the diet for week two. Does anyone have any helpful hints? For example, when its low fat creamed Soups, what brands do you eat? Have you eaten halo top ice cream for the soft foods? HELP!

My surgery was the 12th, out on the 13th, so about on the same track as you. I have been trying to mix sweet and savory, and focusing on getting my Protein in. So far I have had Premier Protein and Muscle Milk premade shakes, I've made shakes in the blender with Isopure, Almond milk, frozen fruit & ice. I was craving "real food", so I made lentil Soup in the Instanpot, added some egg white Protein Powder and blended it smooth. I tried Trader Joe's Creamy Corn with Roast Peppers blended with the egg white protein powder, but it didn't taste good to me. For Snacks I've had sugar free Jello. I'm also enjoying Protein20 drinks, they are tasty and hep getting my protein in. I have some Halo ice cream, but haven't had the urge to eat it yet.

Per my RD, while on the liquid stage, there is no reason to differential between Protein Drinks and non-protein liquids. They all add to your total liquid goal. Also, no need to wait 30 minutes before or after until you get to the puree stage. Maybe that will help you?

Had surgery on 2/12 having issues swallowing. Once I do it seems painful and my tummy starts growling.

My surgery was 2/12 also. It’s painful when it’s too big of a gulp so I will take smaller sips. I forget sometimes. And my stomach is constantly growing. Even at night. Crazy

Thank you so much! A nurse called me today to check in on me and I asked her about it and she said that’s what I was supposed to be doing... I’m blaming it on surgery brain!

Yes, surgery was 2/12, this past Monday. My program is full liquids for 2 weeks, once discharged. I was told (repeatedly, lol) if it would fit through a straw, I could have it. Plus I can have sf Jello, pudding and yogurt.

If they aren't healing right you would have reddened areas around them, have discharge coming from them, be raised up instead of flattening out, starting to gape open or threads coming out. If none of these you are probably okay. Remember you don't just have surface healing places, you're still healing down inside your body also. 97% sure you'll be Just fine if you give it time but check with your surgeon's office just to be safe.

It’s so hard not being able to eat junk but I know that’s what got me to where I was so I’m trying to stay strong! I’m 4 days post op and I’m on full liquids, I enjoy sugar free Jello but my sleeve does not like sugar free apple sauce [emoji20]

Same! My sleeve will not tolerate it I’m in so much pain when I do eat it and I hate yogurt so I’m trying to find something else that could work..

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
