Here is my story

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I feel bad that I have read all your stories and I have not posted anything. So here is my story. My name is Doug and I am 55 years old. I got sleeved on November 15th. I thought I was prepared after reading this and other boards…..N O T! Got to the hospital at 5am and surgery was at 7:15 and was in recovery for who knows how long. I got to my room about 3:pm. The first night I was on heavy pain meds and yes it was a painful surgery and I had the “oh **** what have I done thoughts”. The next day I was feeling better and was off the IV pain meds just oral. After two days I was off all pain meds and for the most part I felt really good. I was back to work in one week. I was banned from the gym but I did walk every day, first around the block and later around the community (2 miles). I had my 2 week checkup and was cleared to go back to the gym (35 min cardio and lift no more than 25 pounds) I still walk 2 miles a day too. I am down 29 pounds…..But this is counting the 19 pounds I was told I have to loose be fore surgery. Everything has healed nicely and so far I have had zero side effects. I did the Protein Drinks as long as I could stand but could not hang and went to Simi solid foods as soon as I could. One word about foods though, the stuff I use to like to eat I still have in the house and although I remember what they taste and I did like them, I have no desire to eat them and an throwing them out as they expire…Weird huh. I feel better and have more energy. My eyes are clearer and I just really feel good, if you are thinking about or are about to have the surgery, my advice would to do it and not look back. You will not regret it at all. If any one here and any second thoughts or just needs some one to talk to my phone is always on and I welcome your call.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
