December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

Recommended Posts

So I have a (likely) surgery date of December 13th, pending insurance approval. Any other people having a gastric bypass in December and want to be buddies? I hope we can keep this thread going as we prepare for surgery, and after!

@823freckles My tentative date is Dec 13 also! Totally dependent on when BCBS gives the official approval. I'll be your buddy, but I'm an old lady next to you....57 years old! Are you as nervous as me about getting through the surgery and that first month?

I'm scheduled for a revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. Would love to stay connected, but I'm also new on here and need to know how to go about staying connected.

Yay! So nice to see some fellow December gastric bypass people! I am excited but really, really nervous. I also have a pretty extreme pre-op diet from my surgeon-based on my BMI, I have 4 weeks of Protein Shakes and raw vegetables! So I start that Tuesday.

I am new here too, but it looks like there's like a "follow thread" button at the top. I think if you post on the thread, you have automatically "followed" it as well, and will be notified of new posts. Hope that helps!

I'm really excited to share that I got approved! Yay!

I'm also on day 4 of my pre-op diet (protein shakes and raw vegetables). It's been pretty rough. I feel like my emotions are literally all over the place-which scares me.

How is everyone else handling any emotional struggles around the prep?

@823freckles I haven't started the Pre Op diet....I don't even know what mine will be or how soon prior to surgery I do that. I don't see the doctor or dietician again until Dec 6 and my RNY surgery is Dec 27. What date is your surgery?

My emotions go from scared to death....to so excited that I'm getting this incredible opportunity to save my life and maybe not suffer the constant shame of out of control eating and being the fat girl in the room....to being just normal....to be able to walk with not horrible knee pain again....to not be out of breath walking up one flight of stairs....yep, I'm all over the place.

Biggest fear....am I strong enough physically to survive the surgery and the recovery phase?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
