Always seeing myself the same fat girl

Recommended Posts

Today is 10 weeks post op....I'm losing slowly and hitting lots of stalls....I know I'm having some progress because my clothes are looser...my coworkers say things complimentary but I feel it's obligatory or just to be nice...I'm down 65#IMG_2830.thumb.JPG.17ea40abcebc0a2dc63a01498aa41c5d.JPG

That's almost 1 pound a day!! And you say you had stalls, which by the way are totally normal. It's just your body playing catch is the way I looked at it. You're doing fantastic. Don't compare yourself to others, it will drive you batty. Also, take measurements today...cause when the stalls start again the measuring will keep you motivated. Even when the scale isn't your friend sometimes....that measuring tape is! Keep up the good work!! Awesome job!

You are doing awesome!! I can see a difference in your pictures. I agree with other members on this forum. Many of us (myself included) have not been kind to ourselves. We have allowed our psyche to believe we aren't worthy of the kind comments and positive feedback. Try to embrace the success. You look awesome! I predict that you will all of the sudden find a point when you have one extra ounce of energy and you will start exercising. It is addictive once you get started. Keep looking for the right exercise. It took me 50 years but I found tennis and I am loving it! You will find the right fit when you least expect it.

First of all quit using the word stall. Are you saying you stalled every time you weighed the same 2 days in a row? Because your rate of loss is amazing. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone losing as rapidly as you are no matter what their starting weight.
How quickly did you think you were going to lose? You are doing amazing!
Please don't think you have to do hours at the gym or run marathons. I met my goal with very light exercise, just getting out and walking a few times a week. You may find it gives you more energy. Just start slow.
But wow, losing a pound a day?? Can't even imagine!

I think you are doing fabulous. I would suggest to try and think more positively of yourself. You ARE the same person. We are not our weight. Our weight changes as part of this life journey, but it doesn't define us. As you are becoming a better version of yourself, try to remember to love and respect your former self. After all, only you know the struggles that woman faced in her life and overcame.

Congratulations on your loss. You look amazing. Just know that it takes our mind a little longer to readjust to the changes in our physical appearance. I remember thinking the same as you but then one day I passed a mirror on a store and had to stop and take a closer look. This journey is psychological as well as medical. Everything in us needs time to readjust. Just keep going.

Great job, keep up the good work. I felt the same way even with losing 85 lb felt like I hadn't changed. It's all in the mind & mirror playing tricks on me. Believe your co-workers.

i say stall cuz sometimes its like 9-10 days at the same weight. i was using calendar and everyday i would mark down pounds lost/gained. for awhile it was like seeing big ol goose eggs through what seem like an eternity lol. im less and less stressing out about no losses and worrying more about doing things right.

boy did you hit the nail on the head. neverending struggles finally have slowed down to normal struggles in life. I am grateful to be alive and in a better position in my life. its not so exciting work sleep on the daily. i will take that ten times over than the domestic abusive situations, homelessness, unemployment, hostile work environments, bad relationships. ive clawed my way to finally feel peace.

What do you mean you don't finish anything? Of course you do - you work don't you? You didn't get that job overnight did you? You are looking really good, much improved. You need to accept the truth of that. And one other thing - smile more. Get in the habit of smiling.

thats so very true. but someone told me a very long time ago that im always going to be seen as the fat girl from the people who have known me for so long. i dont think they meant it in a mean way its like how we normally think of people and they ways. oh thats the bubbly girl never sad... thats the one who likes to party a lot....thats the fitness finatic...etc you see where i am going with that lol. until i hit my goal and maintain then they will change their view. but i dont take that to heart cuz i like where im going and I want to see myself differently.

10 weeks~!!! congratulations on your weight loss! You deserve the credit for your hard work and you definitely deserve the compliments. I agree with the above posts. It will take time for your mind to catch up to see your physical appearance.

Comments and compliments on your weight loss are going to continue until your in maintenance mode. The new attention can be a bit unnerving.

Try giving them comment or compliment a scale

(1) appropriate - acknowledge the NSV. Smile and say thank you.

(2) Hilarious - Enjoy the laughter (Please post any funny things that people say to you)

(3) Inappropriate - (a) Creepy (B) People intended it to be a compliment but, It comes out as an insult (c) a straight up insult. - Smile say have a nice day and walk away ( In your head say kiss my ***) Never waste your energy on negative people. Surround yourself with the supportive people that have your back in life.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
