Back to work SNACK ideas

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to go back to work, and want to start planning on snackideas to take with me.

i will be 5 weeks post op when I return to work, so would appreciate any and all snack ideas other than my Protein Drinks - don't get me wrong, I love the different Premier Protein and muscle milk flavors.... but just want something different. I would love to hear ALL Snacks, not just recent post op ones. Ideally these are just Snacks, but if they are a little bigger that's fine too, as I can consolidate them to make it 1 or 2 snacks

Ive ordered small containers to hold snacks to get ready

some suggestions I've read are tuna in the foil packs, hummus, almonds, Greek yogurt, edamame.....

1. Celery and Laughing Cow cheese

2. Carrots

3. Turkey roll-ups (turkey slices/cream cheese/chives) - So good

4. Homemade P3* with raw almonds, cheddar, sliced turkey

5. Homemade P3* with raw almonds, Monterey jack, sliced black forest ham, blueberries

6. Homemade P3* with cubed chicken, cashews and jalapeno jack

7. berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) and Greek Yogurt or Cottage Cheese or Low Carb Heavy Whipping Cream**

8. Pickles

9. Sliced cucumber with lime juice and a bit of salt or other spice...Also good with hummus or avocado guac

*If you don't want to make your own P3s (cheaper), you can purchase them from the stores. I love many of the combinations and pairings. Buying cheeses, nuts and the meats in bulk will be cheaper, and allow you to change it up for different flavor combinations.

**Low Carb Heavy Whipping Cream - 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream, 1-2 Tsp. liquid or powdered Stevia, 1 Tsp. vanilla Extract

So, by Snacks you're really saying any one of your 5-6 small meals, right? :)

Fluffy: Yes. Any of the 5-6 meals is what I would consider a snack.

introversion - those are great ideas- especially the pepperoni and turkey sausage stick/link!

Dropwt4life awesome list- love the P3 copycat ideas- that will save so much money.!

I am not sure who make them but they are high Protein snack packs- usually include a meat, cheese and some sort of fruit - I've seen yogurt covered blueberries, dark chocolate covered things..... think of it as a Lunchable for protein.... the ones I've seen are about 15-18 G protein per pack. They are also a few bucks.... so if you make your own will definitely save some $$$

chili

chicken pot pie Soup

king ranch casserole soup

anything curry

lentil soup

redbeans n "rice" (cauli rice)

(All of the above Soups are more like "stewps" -- heavy on the Protein elements, short on thick liquid that is there mainly to keep things moist and going through your pouch smoothly. Ideally, these are just small containers that are leftovers from the previous night's/week of dinners. Just nuke for a minute and bam, satisfying meal in minutes!)

eggface's ricotta bake

I noticed that cottage cheese was mentioned, I love it with a couple of teaspoons of SF strawberry Jelly. Taste kind of like a strawberry cheesecake!! Peanut Butter and celery is a good one. Jerky also.

You can eat the chocolate? I'm only 5 weeks out from gastric bypass and I am a little stressed, I ate potato Soup and dumped and I've somehow put on 5lbs?! How many calories are gastric bypass pt's suppose to get? I hit maybe 400 on a good day. I'm glad to see your snack options!!!

Yes, its just chocolate covered, and there are only approx. 8-9 blueberries. So, the chocolate is next to nothing. It has 9grams of sugar listed on the label. However, it doesn't have a break down of added vs. natural sugars. The blueberries have some natural, and then the chocolate. I normally don't go over 5 grams, but it this case, I know the blueberries are contributing to the content.

I'm 6 months post op, and I didn't experiment with added sugars until probably the 4 month mark. I was leery at first to dump. But I've found that if I keep it around 5 grams per serving, I'm OK. This means, I can have a taste of something---without getting sick/dumping. However, it does open a gateway to "testing the limits". Generally speaking, I just steer clear unless its something like the snack packs. I do eat SF, or "Carb Smart" ice cream bars on occasion as well. Again, if this is a trigger food for you, I'd wait until closer to goal to start trying those things.

Remember, you have to eat 3500 calories to gain a pound. That is without exercising or our natural BMR. I doubt you've eaten enough to gain 5lbs. It could be a variety of things (hormones from our lady friend, Constipation, Fluid retention, muscle weight if you are exercising). But one thing I can guarantee is, you aren't really gaining fat.

Everyone's program is different. My program encourages patients to work their way back up to 1000-1200 calories a day at approx. 8 weeks post op. I eat very well balanced with fat, carbs, Protein, ect. I've been blessed to lose 125lbs in 6 months and eat fairly "normal". I eat whole grains, Beans, fruit, ect. . I don't have cravings. Besides the pre op diet, and the food progression stages, I feel like my diet is normal. I just eat less. It's something I can maintain for a lifetime.

I don't do anything public, besides this site. I've decided to keep my WLS journey private. But you can always send me a PM on here and I'd be happy to help in anyway!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
