Sleeved 10/10/17 and incisions are hurting so bad!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm laying here in the hospital. I was sleeved yesterday. I was in so much pain from the gas yesterday but they were running pain medicine through my IV so I was asleep for most of it. I have gotten up a lot to talk but I still have painful gas in my stomach. The pain has been almost unbearable in my incisions too. They are weaning me off pain meds and it's almost more than I can handle right now.

Can anyone recommend something to help this gas? The hospital gave me a chewable for gas but that still didn't help.

walk, at least 5 minutes every hour. And ask for more painkillers in between. I got morphine every 2 hours...

I was sleeved 10/11, I'm right there with you. I'm surprised how much walking helps. Stay strong sister!

Are you still in the hospital? My pain decreased a little this evening but I just woke up now with some more. I thought it was gas at first but apparently the incision on the right is where my stomach was pulled so they said it could be the worst one to heal. I am trying to get up as much as I can. I have to sleep in a recliner because the bed hurts me so much.

Hey sleeve buddy... also sleeved 10/10 and I just got home yesterday. I ended up opting to stay a second night in the hospital so I totally feel your pain. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy!
I am somewhat better now but the only thing that helped me was the walking, even though for the longest time after every walk it would get worse as the gas shifted and broke up or whatever it was doing. I was bawling my eyes out so hang in there, it will get better and be persistent; ask for pain meds to help you through. If not now, when?

I wish I would have stayed a second night. I feel like I came home too soon. I was able to swallow the pain pills so they said it was up to me. I felt guilty asking another family member to stay another night with me so I just decided to come home. I am trying to walk as much as possible. I just can't tell if this throbbing pain on the right is gas or my belly pulling down on my biggest incision causing me discomfort. I'm just hoping tomorrow is a better day. I'm happy you are at home and can relax!

I was outpatient, I walked as much as I could stand it the first day. Helps get that gas out. Pain meds didn’t really help that pain from the gas, just the walking. I did use liquid hydrocodone at night just to be able to sleep.

As far as incisions, I feel your pain. I am just two months out and still have the big incision which is finally scabbed over. Three had opened up after they long should have been healed. Down to one, finally!

I was also sleeved on 10/10 HW 272 CW 248 GW ?? I would have to say the gas pain is the worst, walking and moving around has helped. My stomach feels so heavy if that makes any sense. I stayed I. The hospital for 2 days but I feel like they were rushing me out. It was very hard for me to consume liquids and it still is. I’m baffled on how my nutritionists wants me to get almost 99-108 grams of protien in a day ... it feels impossible. Stay strong I hope you feel better.

Laying on my left side helped with gas. Use a pillow if needed. It would turn me into a fart machine and I'd feel so much better.

Thanks everyone! That sharp pain went away on the right my second day after surgery. I am still feeling the tightness in my stomach but that's just normal. Today I got up and went with my family to Sam's club to walk around some. I got tired really quickly and came right home. I guess I just need to build up my stamina again. I'm so happy to be on the other side of the surgery. I don't regret this decision at all!!

I’ve had two people I know that had the surgery that it’s a good two weeks before you will start getting your energy back. I was sleeved on Oct 11 and am still very sore. I’m slowly cutting down on the pain meds because they make me sleep. Too much sleep and I can’t get my Protein in. This is a really hard adjustment and I’m taking it one day at a time. Still on liquids for two weeks and would really love a banana

Hey sleeve twin! I also had my surgery 10/10/17. Other than the 30 minutes of walking a day and gas x chewables I haven’t found any other solutions. My incisions aren’t too bad, I’m having problems with just one of them. Just take it day by day in hopes of the next day being better [emoji4]

Thank you!! I woke up feeling better today. It's just the one big incision that is giving me hell. Thanks for the advice. Congrats on getting sleeved! I'm looking forward to our future.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
