I feel like I can eat too much

Recommended Posts

I’m 11 days post op and today I ate 1280 calories in Soup and yogurt. I don’t get it. I don’t have problems eating too much or getting sick. I feel overly full sometimes like today but never enough to vomit or dump. I can drink Water normally and never have had a problem with that... other people I know can only eat 2-4 ounces at a time... I hope this changes when I go to puréed and soft foods... otherwise idk why I did this surgery!!! I thought I’d be much more restricted than I am.

Soup is a liquid. Yogurt is a liquid (pudding thick consistency).

Liquid-consistency foods don't promote fullness or satiety in many sleevers simply because they don't remain in our sleeved stomachs for longer than a few minutes.

liquids exit our sleeves rapidly via the pyloric valve and into the small intestine. You could probably eat a gallon of potato corn chowder soup (3070 calories) over the course of a few hours and still be somewhat hungry.

I assure you'll feel stuffed with 4 ounces of chicken breast, pork chops, turkey, or steak. Rigid Protein and fibrous veggies trigger satiety. Everything else is a 'slider,' a.k.a. food that slides into our stomachs without triggering satiety.

I hope you are right! I just got alarmed when so many people could barely finish their Water or protein intake and I was totally fine with it! I graduate to puréed on Monday so hopefully a half a cup of egg salad does the job!

I feel the same way. I go to puree stage tomorrow. I'm ready for refried beans! Or any mushy foods for that matter.

I freaked out too lol and had a great recovery with no issues. I could drink all day and as soon as solids... even the scrambled egg is so filling. Trust me, you are restricted!

Yay! Today I ate soft foods. I ate a half cup of corned beef hash and was sure I was still hungry. So I ate a half cup of Tomato Soup and boy! I now know what that overfill uncomfortable feeling feels like. I almost had to push it today to know what I was capable of, but I know not to make a habit of it.

I'm on day 2 from surgery and I'm honestly starving... got Protein Shakes and Water down with no problems. Hope my hunger subsides. Main reason I got this surgery was to eliminate how hungry I get after going too the gym..

I felt the same way after surgery. I am still convinced my sleeve is too big. I was starving the day after surgery. I am still hungry often and it is not f*cking head hunger. It is legitimate hunger. I thought this surgery was supposed to reduce ghrelin production?
Oh well, still glad to be down 45 pounds in 8 weeks.

When I went to pureed and soft foods after my liquid diet it was way different there's no way I can keep eat more than 2 ounces of food in a sitting I was pretty scared when I was on liquid diet cuz I could drink so much and not feel full but now that there's actual food involved totally different

Omg me too just had surgery yesterday for the sleeve and I'm starving. I did this mostly to lose my hunger issues. Just got released at 3pm today and since I've been home I've had no problems in taking down 2 Protein Shakes. 4 sugar free POPSICLES.

My experience has been I still feel hunger. I am hungry roughly every two hours. I can eat about 4 to 6 ounces of lean Protein and I am satisfied. Then two hours later hungry again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
