So question for you all, how are you coping with Thanksgiving. I'm seriously thinking if going away for a few days. Anyone else?

We don’t Celebrate thanksgiving so my stomach is grateful ... is just gonna be family together. Watching movies. [emoji19] while drinking my shakes. Any other day it would’ve been beer maybe or rum.

@FluffyChix I am so sorry to hear about the delay, but it sounds like you may be able to get some assistance from your other doctors with letters. I love your perseverance. That determination is what is going to help you be successful once you get your surgery. Please keep us in the loop and we will be there to support and encourage you, just like you are with everyone else here.

Just went to my one week postop and had my drain removed. Doing great overall, so I will not complain! Anyone else have a drain removed postop? I know some surgeons use them and others do not. It wasn't painful to have it removed, but since he pulled it, I fill like my stomach is full of air. Yuck. But I'll just walk it off... tomorrow.
Hope everyone else is doing well! And those on the preop diet, YOU GOT THIS!

I saw a video where the patients did it themselves.. just looking at that long tube feels weird. Many complained that thing hurt. But if it didn’t bother you.. thank God. I’m glad you doing great! Best wishes for ya!

I second this! If you ever feel like ranting come give it to us.

So happy for you!! Congrats on getting your surgery and being at a week post op! I didn’t have a drain but I’ve heard they are irritating & can be painful to remove. Sounds like walking would be a best-like you say. I hope you give yourself plenty of permission to sleep AS MUCH AS YOU NEED! I was so fatigued, just totally exhausted.

Hi. I am going to have my RNY on November 27th. This is day 3 of my liver shrinking diet. I have been a daily reader here but this is only my second time posting.

I am 56 years old and I had a small stroke last year. I have no lasting problems from the stroke but it woke me up. I do not want to be obese. I have spent the last 8 months pursuing this surgery. Tests, drs appointments and classes have made me stronger. This site with all of you, has made me stronger.

Thanks for all of your conversations that have given me so much hope.

Thanksgiving will be 2 days after leaving hospital, so I'm vegging on the couch and probably sleeping. Thankfully it's a small get together this year.

So I have rescheduled my surgery for December 29th, hopefully nothing else will go wrong, I am such a pessimist, always have been, now that my surgery has been scheduled I will just find something else to worry about. I hate being put under anesthesia, always afraid I won't wake up but I know being obese that I will end up with a ton of health problems.

I hear you!! I am day 5 today, hungry ALL the time, and tired, not sleeping well, low energy. Hopefully this passes by day 7. I try not to concentrate on anything other than today, sometime just this minute. Cheating is very tempting, I haven't yet, but totally understand anyone that does. This is tough.

On the plus side, you are down 36 lbs !! That is fantastic!! Keep it up, you can do this !!!

I can certainly understand your mental state right now and hopefully your family does too! That liquid diet was tough and i only made it my the grace of God! I pretty much worked and stayed to myself because i knew i would miserable and didn’t want to push that onto anyone else. I will keep you in my prayers; but you got this just keep pushing! FYI drink even when you’re not thirsty that might help stave off hunger and maybe even those headaches. [emoji1488]

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
