Calling all October sleevers!!

Recommended Posts

My doc wanted me to lose 10 pounds and I followed Bariatric Fusion's Liver Reduction Diet. I printed out their pdf and hung several of them all over my house! Its 3-4 Protein Shakes (their Orange and chocolate are tolerable- we have to remember it's a Protein Shake and not a meal! I made them with ice and non-fat milk = kinda milkshake-y ) and SF Jello, SF pops (tropical flavor!!) and homemade broth, V8 and low sugar cranberry juice. I lost 13.5 pounds! I had a few cheat days with roasted chicken breast and steamed veggies but overall I got used to it. I whined a bunch, work was sometimes frustrating and the cravings got insane at times but I kept my eye on the prize and I did get used to it. I went in a few weeks later and he was very pleased with the loss. I got submitted, approved and scheduled within three days!
You've come so far at this point. stay focused on what you want: slimmer happier healthier lighter (insert adjective here) and two weeks will fly by! Good luck to you!!

Thank you! I am on day four and I have stayed on track. What day is your surgery?

My preop is Optifast 800. So 1 Soup, 1 Protein Bar and at least 3 shakes, which totals 800 calories. I have the fatty liver infiltration) off and on, since 1987, depending on weight. So truly don't want to end up not getting this done. It's quite a lot less than my 1200 cal diabetic/cardio regamine, but since it's all premade I don't have to think about it. My husband, however, cooking bacon, made it a bit difficult yesterday. Now I know how our puppies feel!

Not complaining, but will comment that Nestles makes this, and the chocolate Protein bar is not up to their standards.

I don't know about y'all but I have been doing great for the past 6 months. Making changes each month, doing exactly what I need to do to get to this point! Now that I have a date and am going on my pre-op diet in 2 weeks my mindset is GONE! I was making my grocery order this morning and ordering sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding. I have done this as a staple for YEARS to satisfy my sweet tooth. Oh no, today as I put my order in online I'm thinking "I'm getting ice cream and little debbies!" I, of course, didn't but it is just funny how all I could think was that I am going to be sick of that crap when it is all I am going to be able to eat for a little bit (sweet wise) so I need to go crazy now. 🙄

I can sympathize but from the opposite side of the fence. I've been eating like crazy past 30 days to get it out of my system. I start pre op diet on Weds. I am super scared of the lack of tasty food options but I know this has to be done to restore my self esteem and health. I hear I won't be very hungry after surgery so I wanted to indulge why my stomach can take it [emoji20]

Not me. Friends and family dont know I am getting the surgery, Facebook would kinda give that away. :-)

10/23 is my birthday. I go for my final NUT visit next week, we are hoping if all goes well with insurance approval, I can have surgery at the end of Oct. I would prefer early Oct. so I can be ready for some NFL games I want to attend later in the year. [emoji4] Congrats to everyone!

Same for me. Only person that knows is my Mother . That's it

Hey everyone!! I go in on October 5th!! I just started my 2 week pre-op diet, have a nice nasty headache, excited, scared, nervous, sooooo many different emotions!! I hope you're all doing better than I am! I'll be honest though, I have ZERO support at home, which makes this very difficult. But it's for Me. It's My desicion, and I need to make a change for ME!! For my life. For my children!! I hope and pray that the rest of you have the support you need. If not, I'll be here for you!! [emoji4]

Your not alone. I don’t have much support either. We have to do this for ourselves and not anyone else. After others see the benefits of the surgery, they will all come around. I’m here for you.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
