Diet at 6 wks post op

5 minutes ago, I can do this too! said:

I am 8 days post op and I love hearing about the variety of food you are eating and getting full! Just being on the liquid diet does not fill me up at all. I am not hungry, but certainly not full!

Its honestly mind blowing , the difference from liquids then purees then normal food, Some things make you fuller faster like meat and some things give you extra wiggle room lol Like at the restaurant I wanted abit more time to not get full so I had half a tomatoe before taking a bite of my meat lol ( You are supposed to do protien first but yeah i enjoyed myself)

My nutritionist said I'm not allowed steak for about a year! I love steak and corn and both aren't allowed 7 wks post op. A lot of people say jst to try a little. But I'm scared

@MrsG#1 I get why he said no to corn, doesn't digest properly, high carb...etc. But no steak? Maybe because it isn't lean enough? Are you not allowed any red meat? Weird.

Today I have 2 strips of bacon and 2 eggs scrambled for Breakfast. (Spread out over an hour... took my sweet time because bacon...)

Had a Protein Shake for lunch. 50+g of Protein.

Handful of almonds and a baby bell for snack

chicken thigh bbq'd and 2 pickles for supper.

I'm craving crunch really bad right now as I type this... which sucks. But I'll eat a handful of sunflower seeds or something to kill it. Great source of protein apparently...

My calorie intake today is something around 900.

How far post op are you? I feel like I need crunch too. I jst started eating cucumbers with no peel. But I've been craving tortilla chips and salsa. 😔 But I have no idea when or if I'm allowed to eat tortilla chips. Or bread or any substitution for them. I was also told not nuts for awhile .

We had the same surgery date it looks like July 10th.

I made some gauc the other day and had a chip with it to taste... didn't kill me. But probably not the best idea nutritionally.

Some people I guess eat Pork rinds. I can't do it. Not my thing. Luckily I have some almonds/cashews or sunflower seeds to help keep it at bay.

I had my surgery July 11th but so close. I'm still experimenting with foods. I will get it. I also heard people say they eat Pork rinds. I wonder what the nutirtional value is. I want to try sunflower seeds maybe soon. Like I said I'm scared to eat .

What is you sort of puréed the steak? Maybe easier to digest!

Heads up. Just found these on Nature Box. Pork bar with 20g of Protein. 110 cal. 3g sugar. 5g fat.

Little salty, but tasty. Not bad for $3.

I just ordered a bunch of them.

I loved bacon before VSG and somehow it is as if the VSG has elevated the bacon flavor to an even more superior deliciousness. I have a fried egg and two strips of bacon for breakfast every Saturday and I spend all week thinking about the bacon. Delicious bacon.

@MrsG#1 go to NatureBox.com it's like a really thick piece of meat. Think granola bar size. Pretty tender. Easy Protein for on the go.

I just noticed there is a referral thing where you can get free Snacks and I can get a credit if you want to use it. Pm me an email address if you like. Why not get free stuff?

I really like protein on the go! Especially if it is not full of sugar and carbs! Thanks for the tip!

My surgeon said I could have steak at 4 weeks post op - inlaws were taking us out- I had filet and chewed the heck out of it and it was awesome!
Every plan is so different.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
