I do the “sip sip sip” method. I do better with my Fluid intake if I’m busy... I have my water bottle in hand at all times and i seem to “sip sip sip” at nearly every transition... my NUT told me not to consume more that 8oz in an hour... so I’ve been keeping to that.

The only thing that hasn’t been awesome, other than the site infection, is that I feel brain fog and the length of time to think things through tends to be longer than usual. It’s far different than before. My husband suggested that it could be due to the lack of calorie intake. He might be onto something. Anyone else notice anything like this?

Not at all, I am 100% as functional as before..... and I can drink the 8oz in 5 minutes... even less.... I feel so good that I been tempted to try small bit of solid food... but, i will wait another 10 days.... oh, the only thing that i have is that i feel or better said I have less sensation when I touch my stomach... I being told this is temporal and normal when you have any surgery.. I would not know as this was the first time I had surgery....

Have not replied in a few days... I am so glad to see and read everyone's success.. I know some are having a harder time than others but they do say the beginning is the hardest part so hang in there... ( I know i am not on the losers bench yet but i read a lot !! ) Well i have exactly 2 days to go!!! Can't Wait.. i am still hanging in there on the pre op diet and the only thing i have noticed here toward the end is i don't "feel" like i have lost anything. I haven't cheated except for a few egg whites and a half piece of baked chicken breast ( about 4 oz) .. My scale at home and work are inconsistent. Guess i will find out on Monday morning ! .. anyone else have the issue with not "feeling like you lost" on the pre op diet without knowing the number. ?

2 more days!!! So excited but also scared!
I was super busy running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off this past week so I wouldn’t have time to freak out. Getting ready for Mexico today and flying out at 6am tomorrow. By the time I process what’s going on I’ll be in Tijuana so... kinda can’t back out at that point [emoji23]
I’ve never been to Mexico before and always wanted to go but... not like this [emoji12]
I’m looking forward to 2 full weeks off work!

Quick question all of you that had the surgery paid by the insurance company, do you get to choose the surgeon?? or do they have like a list of doctors that they give you to choose?? I paid for my surgery that is why I do not know.

I was referred by my primary doctor. I can choose any docror inside my insurance network I was very lucky to get a great one. I had to forfill a 6 month plan in order to have the insurance pay

I had to pick a program in network and to pay the least amount out of pocket I went with a “center of excellence “ I ended up getting the most experienced and top surgeon so after researching the available surgeons; I kept who I was under happily.

When it came time to decide who the surgeon would be, honestly, I said who has the soonest availability and then I went from there. I could change my mind after researching but I didn’t want to in the end.

I’m quite pleased with how this went except for one of my surgical sites opened... the only one that was stitched rather than glued ... so I’m packing and repacking all day long. And I have to take additional time off work to not move around so much. The surgeon wasn’t the one to close so... I get that... I just don’t understand why only one had stitches and wasn’t glued like the others. I’m going to ask at my follow up.

That is great that you have choices.... I did pick the best surgeon in Mexico, the most experienced and honestly I do not know what it is , but every person that had WLS with him, did great and felt great really quick... I am out two weeks and Since week one I was ready to do my normal life..... I am now starting to feel hungy, can't wait to eat some solids !!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
