Just curious if anyone drinks coffee and if so, how soon you were able to start after surgery? I usually enjoy Decaf but its always been hard on my tummy so I haven't even tried. Its not on this list of things my dr told me not to do, so I though I would ask others. School starts next week and I wanted to know if I can partake (I will be 3 weeks post op and on soft food by then)

I started at 3 weeks post op. Did Decaf before then. NUT said wait six months, surgeon said try it if I want to. I did and it made me so happy. :)
It didn't bother my stomach at all. I'm two months post op now and still drinking it happily.

I drink coffee, actually I live off coffee. I don't do Decaf.

You want low acid coffee.

French Roast is lower acid than most coffee

Cold Brew is low acid and it is as smooth as iced tea, this is your best option. Cold Brew is not iced coffee, it is brewed with cold Water over 12-24 hours.

There are specific low acid coffee brews. TJ has a low acid french roast.

This is my current low acid coffee

It is as smooth as cold brew, almost too smooth, lol.

I'm 7 or 8 weeks out and drink coffee. Just 1 cup of coffee with almond milk and a scoop of coffee flavored Protein Powder. It's worked out fine.

I still can't even get my 64oz of Water down a day so I decided to stay away from the coffee till I can up my water intake. My Dr. suggested to stay away from it till I was over the 8 weeks.

I resumed my coffee habit at 2 months post-op. These days I enjoy a minimum of 3 cups per day, usually with half & half and artificial sweetener.

I was able to have Decaf from the beginning. We use Starbucks cafe Verona decaf.

I used to drink coffee all the time and now It makes me sick and also can have a lot of sugar and fat which can make a lot of people sick that way too. I drink really weak tea now. I am however able to drink the Starbucks Refreshers packets very easily because they have green coffee and it is more like tea.

coffee has sugar and fat only if sugar and fat are added.

A cup of black coffee by itself has only 1 whopping calorie. I add a tablespoon of half & half (20 calories) and a few packets of equal (0 calories).

My grand total for a cup of coffee? 21 calories. It won't bust the waistline.

My doc never had any restrictions on coffee and actually let people drink it in the hospital. I started when my stomach got over the acidy-refluxy thing at about 2-3 months.

I don't add any sugar or such. I do use full fat half and half, I don't limit whole food fats in my diet.

Just a warning the Starbucks via refreshers have 13 grams of added sugar.

This is true, black coffee is a really good supplement to add and it can help the metabolism. However, most people drink Starbucks frappuccinos and drink more Creamer than coffee. I wish I was able to drink my coffee with only Splenda and half &half.

The cans do yes, however, the packets that can be added into Water only have 6 grams of sugar and are ok for someone watching their sugar otherwise (I get roughly 15-20 grams a day). I too, wouldn't recommend the canned version because they're heavily carbonated and that could be painful.

Huh, I got the data from both the Starbucks website and my fitness pal for the via packet. Guess it depends on the flavor maybe?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
