Questions about postop for pending 7/13 RNY Gastric Bypass

Hello

when I have my Surgury, I was happy to know that there were people there to help me if needed. Everyone is different after Surgury. I think you have someone to help you around the house if you need it. That is nice to know you have a lot of support. 😀

You don't need someone with you all day but having someone nearby helps. After a week of recovery at home I was feeling very weak, faint when I got up, and my heart was racing. Turns out I had developed an ulcer from one of the meds they gave me to prevent blood clots. I was glad I had my daughter home that day to drive me to the doctor and ER.

Oh wow! I am sure glad your daughter was there. Thank you for the advice.

Just had sleeve on 6/27.. my biggest problem was pain. Especially along the waist line and below. I am still unable to bend at the waist . I needed help the first day after surgery at home. Had friends that would drop by daily and help with certain things I was unable to do. Definitely purchase a grabber to help you pick things up off the floor and it will help with doing certain tasks ..also if you have a pharmacy that delivers or a friend that can bring you what you need for a few days that is helpful. Good luck to you.

Thank you Linda. Grabber is a great idea! I'd still be able to use it later on with our higher cupboards. We live in a hill-y area, so my friends are talking about picking me up for walks in flat areas. Plus it would get me out for a little bit at a time.

Thank you. I am very lucky. Only one really negative person so far. She wanted to be at the hospital with my mom & hubby but we decided to keep it just us and positive vibes. Others have been really great!

Hopefully the dr provides lots of reading information on post op diet...I got sent home with a binder which I still reference. I didn't have much help but my husband stayed home the first day I was home from hospital. But I didn't need him to do anything for me. I wasn't on pain killers..just took things slowly and sipped my Protein Shakes and went for short walks...There are some good books you can grab from library on life after surgery.

It can be a bit overwhelming at beginning figuring out what you can eat and healing. It takes about 4 weeks to start feeling yourself again.

While I was up and moving around those first few days after surgery, the part that killed me was the fatigue. I would nap and often. I needed to have someone around to watch after the kids and make dinner and stuff. If someone offers help, take it. If they make you more miserable, just ask them to leave.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
