Dozy, I am so sorry to hear of everything you have gone through. I admire you staying strong with your faith in God during such an emotional and physical trauma. A lot of people only place God in situations that affect them when its a good one or when they want him to change something. I hope you get back to 100% soon and can come to a decision on your future health. You can do it!

Prayers for everyone!! We're coming up on the holidays and the traditional eating fest that goes with it.

I just got a fill so I know I won't be eating too many deserts (thank God!).

I need prayer for recovery.

After a picture perfect banding, 3 weeks ago, last week, I had sudden intense pain in the abdomen area under my left breast after I drank 4 oz of Carnation Instant Breakfast. That was 10/24 at 10 pm. Sticking to the schedule, I had a yogurt at 11 pm, and a Protein drink at midnight. The pain was more intense. I took 3 TUMS, and went to bed. I had a fever, 99.7. I had two Tylenol and a Popsicle. I thought I was coming down with what my husband was getting over. But the abdominal pain was odd. I figured I'd call the doc at 9 am.

I never made it to morning to call the doc, the pain was too great. 7 hours later, I ended up in the emergency room at 5 am last Thursday morn (10/25), followed by emergency surgery to save my life.

Seems the band was eroding my esophagus and the liquids I had after that Carnation Instant Breakfast that started the pain went into my body instead of into my stomach. The doc had never seen anything like it happen to a bander and though there's always risk of complications to any procedure, never expected a complication like this.

I had to have the band removed. My survival prognosis going in to surgery wasn't good. They gave me 20%. Lucky for me, I don't have too many body complications like diabetes or high blood pressure. I'm strong and I made it, and a much more faster recovery than the doc or my family could even hope for. I was put on may prayer chains and my husband spoke the Word to me while I was in ICU. I quickly went from critical/stable to stable in 3 days.

But instead of a lapriscopic surgery, I had my belly cut, so now I have tons of stitches, staples and pain. The first 5 days of the ordeal was torture and madness and intense pain. I'm out of the hospital as of this afternoon (11/2) because bed rest at home is the better healer. My back was very happy to see my nice soft bed, because after 8 days, the hospital bed just wreaks havoc on your spine. I just had my first good sleep of 3 hours straight. I'm up to eat and will be zonking again soon under the influence of a Percoset.

So, I'm no longer a member of the band, but I have to be on the diet for the next month while my insides heal. AND maybe, while on that liquid diet, I can at least achieve my weight loss of 50 pounds anyway and be at 299 and going down, perhaps the hard way. I'm down 20!

Future banding is out of the question. The doctor doesn't recommend it and wouldn't risk it. RNY is still possible, but not until spring 2008. I have 2 months to decide if I choose RNY to get an April surgery date..., and guess what, begin the nutritional process all over again.

I'm happy and thankful to be alive. It's been a mixture of tears of joy at being alive, and sadness at nixing the great weight loss goal I had in 18 months.

There is no one to blame. I keep saying Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose." God will make this "a good" for me; I've assured my doc that I don't blame him, and that God will make this "a good" for him as well.

ALL THE BEST to EVERYONE!

Remember, what happened to me is not the norm.

Go for life every time! Live it healthier and thinner!

Good bye All

I'm so sorry the lap band did not work out for you. Thank God you're alive and doing better now. You are in my prayers.

That is the ultimate goal - to look more like Him than ourselves! It's a lifelong jouney - I only wish I had started it sooner. I was young and didn't "actively" try to grow until I was 30. Such a waste. But, it did finally bring my husband to the Lord as well as both of my children shortly after him.

Hugs & Prayers to all!

Babygotback - God bless you too!

Geneva - I didn't get saved till I was 43! I wish it happend sooner too but he wanted us to go through what we did so that we could learn and be able to identify with others that are just like we were. Boy, have I got allot to teach! How wonderful that you brought your hubby and kids to faith. That must be the highlight of your life! I think both of my girls are saved but, sometimes you can't tell the difference between having a intellectual knowledge of God and being a true believer of God. God was known to me all my life, I loved him and believed in Him with all my heart, but, I didn't trust Him enough to give him my sins and follow Him. Now, I trust Him with all my heart. I am redeemed! He washed me clean. I new it the minute it happened. It can't be denied if your lucky enough to feel the Holy Spirit wash over your heart!

Blessings,

Weazer

Weazer that is beautiful!! I know what you mean about not always being able to tell. My son was saved when he was 9, and then when he was 12 he confessed to the pastor that he only did so because everyone else was. He became truly saved and baptized; he cried, I cried :) Still I sometimes wonder based on actions but we can't judge.

Hugs & Prayers,

Geneva

I believe that God led me to do this. I never considered wls, I found a Dr. about an hour away and went to all his doctors and did all those tests but I really wanted to do this closer to home. I really didn't want to put anyone out of their way to take me to and from the hospital. I don't know why but the surgeon's office never returned my calls, I was beside myself, but put my trust in the Lord. I now have a Dr. locally who will band me on December 10th. I feel peace about this now. I feel that God gave me the desire of my heart and I am sure everything is going to be okay.

My name is Cindy and I was banded on November 6th. During recovery I started to actively post and read www.lapbandtalk.com. It is funny how I did not find this thread until today.

Ever since I started to research WLS; I have been at peace about it. A strange queit peace. I stumbled upon Lapband during my research and just found it to be a safer choice to me. When I approached my husband about it; he was very supportive to my decision. He actually said that he was not comfortable with GB but felt that if I wanted to do the Lapband, he was behind me. He has seen how I have struggled with my weight for a long time.

I really didn't tell anyone of my decision except family; who were also supportive. A little nervous about it but once I explained it and had my Mom come to my appts with me they were on board with my decision.

I must say that the peace I felt from God went right with me into surgery. I was never once nervous and did not even need to have the happy juice to calm me prior to surgery. Recovery was a little slower as I had never had surgery before so I did not know that I would feel as tired as I was. However, Thursday was my turning point and I felt like a million bucks. Each day gets better and better but I know when I have over done it because my body tells me.

As for the diet, the Lord has been helping me with this as well. It has not been as bad as I thought it was going to be. The pre-op was fine and I actually lost 24lbs during the two weeks. I was astonished that I was not hungry and believe me I thank him for that. The two week post op diet has been fine a bit cumbersome with the Protein shakes and I am kinda sick of it but I will prevail. I just harken to the scripture; "He who has begun a good work in me" not sure where it is in the

Bible but it has been a great comfort to me. As you can see from my ticker, I have lost 35lbs. all together so far. I know it won't be all roses and butterflys but I am looking forward to my new found body. I thank the Lord for giving the people who created the Band the knowledge and science to follow through and help us with the struggle of obesity.

Thanks for listening and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

God Bless,

Cindy

Geneva, I have a 13 yr old that I worry about. I know she's a beliver in God and beleives that Jesus died for our sins...but l'm not sure that she is saved yet. All we can do is keep praying for them...really really really hard!

Aloco53 (LOL) Welcome, soon you'll be a bandit too! This is one of the very best things I have ever done for myself. I believe that this surgery was a blessing from God for me. I am off my blood pressure meds...my skin looks ten years younger...I don't get winded easily. It's been a great experience. I know it will be for you too!

Hollyberries (Cindy) Welcome, so glad you found us. I'm with ya on the peace thing. When ever I have a big decission to make...I hash it out with God and until I get that peaceful feeling I don't act upon it. That doesn't mean we won't continue to worry a bit...change can be a bit scary...but we can put our trust in the Lord. I have a feeling your going to be an inspiration to us all.

Blessings my new friends!

Weazer

Welcome Hollyberries!!

Hugs and prayers to all for this week. Thanksgiving is going to be one of the first big challenges for our food. I pray that we all "listen" to our bands and we don't get stuck, slime, or PB!

Today, I am thankful for my God, my Family, my Church, my Band and for LBT!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
