3 days out - pain from gallbladder removal

Recommended Posts

My surgery was early Tuesday morning. They finally discharged me late Thursday afternoon after trying to decide if they should keep me another night. I begged to go home and they let me. The sleeve portion of the surgery went perfectly smooth. Apparently my gallbladder was about to "burst at the seams" and was one of the worst my doc had ever seen. He was perplexed as to why it had never given me problems. He took that sick, enlarged, sucker right on out of me. That is where I am having the excruciating pain now. But it's a little more tolerable each day. I'm working on getting all of my Water down and taking a lot of naps. Thank you for all of your support. Despite how I'm feeling physically, I have no regrets and would do it all over again. My doc and the nurses were amazing!

Anyone else have severe pain after the gall bladder removal? When did it go away?

I had my gallbladder removed years ago and was shocked by how painful it was afterwards and length of recovery time. It took a good 10 days to start feeling better. I had the VSG procedure w/hernia repair and it was a breeze compared to the gallbladder removal. Not quite sure why, as incisions are pretty much the same for both procedures. You will start feeling better soon.

My gallbladder removal was a couple of years ago and it hurt far worse than my sleeve surgery. My gallbladder wasn't even enlarged. Different surgeons? I have no idea but I was pretty nervous about VSG after the gallbladder ordeal.
I will say that the recovery was similar in one regard, it gets better every day. Heal up.

I needed the full 12 weeks for recovery. I was unable to get in and out of bed on my own for about 7 days.

I had my gall bladder, my sleeve and hernia repair at the same time. No issues.... I was concerned right before the surgery because the surgeon said she would take the gall bladder out first and if there were any problems she would not do the sleeve. So I said no, please, I need to have the sleeve, so if you can only do one, please do the sleeve. Luckily she was able to do them all. I guess I am lucky, little pain after the first day and no issues.

Wow, I had my gallbladder removed a year after lapband surgery and it was easier than the lapband for me. Mostly because I learned my lesson and walked for a hour before going home. I didn't do that with the band and suffered greatly. Both were outpatient same day surgeries (2011, 2012)

I had my gallbladder removed a couple of years ago. The only signs was back pains, I kept going to the chiropractor. Lol. Anyways, after removal, I remember comparing it to childbirth!! I felt more sore afterwards!! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
