Gained weight in pre-op

Recommended Posts

I've been meeting with my doctor since January. I'm scheduled to have my surgery on June 26th, and I've gained eight pounds. I haven't been weighing myself and actively trying to lose weight since I decided to have the surgery. My doctor says that I should try to lose those eight pounds before the surgery because it will mean I will lose even more weight after the surgery.

I'm just getting frustrated annoyed with myself. Have you experienced this? Am I stressing over nothing?

Are you paying out of pocket? Most insurance companies who require the dr monitored weigh ins also require you to not gain during that time. If you are even just 1 pound heavier than your first weigh in, they deny the surgery. Maybe ask your insurance or surgeon - I was told that the point of the dr weigh in Period is to make sure you take the life change seriously enough to work at losing weight AND to try to get you to give up or fail so they can deny It and save money.

I'm doing it through insurance. My doctor said it was ok, but he wants me to lose it before hand for better Weightloss. I want to lose it because, well all the reasons. I had a setback with working out due to a back injury, and that he's aware of.

He never mentioned that insurance might decline me for gaining. I have my surgical clearance with my GP in several weeks. Now I'm nervous, yet more motivated. Thank you!

I have gained 10 pounds since they emptied my band . I am trying very hard to not gain anymore and lose the 10. Trying 2 Protein Shakes a day as Meal Replacement but it is not working....

I encourage you to lose as much weight as possible before your Gastric Bypass next month as it will help minimize surgical risks. So no food funerals, follow your doctor's diet, and start reducing consumption of processed food and large portion sizes. Good luck, you can do this!

Maria, do you have any shake recommendations or ones that I should avoid for sugar/flavor problems? Starting tomorrow (Mon), I am going to do two Protein Shakes and lean Protein and veggies for dinner. Usually I'm a good loser, I just haven't been actively trying to, you know? I should have been keeping my weight in check though. One of the main reasons is that I'm on the edge of not being qualified and I didn't want to drop into unqualified territory. I'll lose the extra pounds. This is motivating.

I'm trying not to do food funerals like you said, Marinagirl. The food sizes seem to get me though. I like food. There is so much of it. Grrrrr. I've been doing the split entree thing lately and asking for boxes right away so I can gear up for my future stomach. When we go out now I'm also scoping it the apps/sides/soups at places we usually go. I'm working on my mindful eating. Thank you!

Any other to tips and words of encouragement are more than welcome! I'm excited and wish that June 26th would get here soon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
