Surgery canceled ☹

Recommended Posts

I'm so bummed, and just need to vent. My bypass surgery was scheduled fit 5/11 so I went to my class and pre-op labs on Monday. I learned yesterday that my a1c was too high for surgery. I was really surprised it had gone so high. After I ugly cried, I made an appointment with my doctor to talk about a new medication. Has anyone else been through this?

Yes, but for a different surgery! The anesthesiologist won't put you under if it's too high. It's a safety issue. I had to get back surgery last year, and had the same issue. I cried my eyes out. After 6 years of pain, I was almost there. I begged them not to cancel it, and I'd be exactly where they needed me to be. They kept it...(had to have my tailbone removed....long story)...They won't put you under at a certain point. Here's what we did. My endo switched me to Humulin 500 (was a pain to get my insurance, this is a very concentrated formula), but did wonders for me. I also went high Protein, cut carbs to bare min....I was ready in no time. Then right before, i started in on an almost clear liquid...chicken broth, Jello, etc...they were amazed at the turnaround, and I got my surgery as scheduled! It was an intense week. I did have my tailbone removed, and while they were in there, they found a second piece that had to come out. Two bones removed...and I was like a new woman. Now onto this surgery :)

You can do this. You can do this. You can do this. (hugs)

Update: I was started on Victoza and, three months to the day, my a1c was down from 11.4 to 7.4! It's really nice to have normal daily readings again too. Best of all, surgery has been rescheduled to 8/17!! I'm so excited to see this journey through.

Began 10/16, Approved 03/17, Canceled 04/17 bc of high BSG, now bypass pending 07/17

I feel your pain. I find out my A1C this Friday and I know it's way higher than that. Just started insulin 2 weeks ago to try and lower it for this :(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
