HELP! Hating all protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I am so confused! I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op and the last 2 days I can't take Protein Shakes. I know they said your tastes will change but I would have thought it was immediate not two weeks post op. I have been trying different ones and they all turn my stomach and taste terrible! Even the ones I loved last week. I need advice or suggestions. Has anyone had this happen or is there one you really love?

Def. Not just you. I'm lucky I tolerate milk. I get my Protein from all things dairy except cheese right now.

I hate them too but I found premier protien with pb powder is pretty good. Also like the nectar lemonade.

I'm in the same boat. It seems to be the artificial flavors that are really doing me in. It's like drinking cleaning Fluid.

I've been getting as much Protein as possible through dairy, legumes, and very soft moist meat in tiny quantities.

And, of course, everything I eat still makes me super nauseous. 🙄 Except fruit, and fruit/fresh juices with pulp are just too much sweet for me in any quantity.

Thank you all! I haven't done any meat yet. I'm not really sure how to do cook it that is is not dry and the thought of puréed meat turns my stomach. How are you preparing it?

Are you drinking ready made shakes, or are you making your own from powder? I've never liked the ready made ones, although I could tolerate them pre-op. Post-op, no way. However, I make my own shakes with Protein Powder, and they are so much better! FWIW, I'm using Syntrax powders, both vanilla bean/chocolate torte for regular shakes made with unsweetened almond milk and either unsweetened greek yogurt or half a block of tofu to thicken them up and add some extra Protein. I also often add PB2 powder to the chocolate shakes because yum. I use a variety of their "juice" type nectar powders that mix really well with Water. I'm 2.5 months post-op, but I've had no problem with my handmade shakes either pre- or post-op.

Stewing, braising, and lengthy simmering, with a sauce or gravy and always lots of chewing. I only manage a teaspoon or so.

Try as I might, I just can't de-lump the powders successfully. :(

I always did the powder but I've had a few premade that I liked pre-surgery. Now I like nothing. Mostly the flavors, everything just tastes wrong. Going out tomorrow to try the premier and crossing my fingers. They gave me one type in the hospital that I absolutely loved and I took a sip of it today and I almost spit it out it was so gross... they weren't lying about your taste changing.

I actually have these in my fridge! Someone gave me them and said they are gross so I was afraid to try it lol. Do you like it?

I have been using Unjury unflavored Protein powder. It's wonderful. The flavor truly is "unflavored" and does not change the flavor of whatever you mix it with.

I found the best way to mix them is in a shaker cup. Any container with a good lid will do. A quick shake works better than any amount of stirring.

I was totally fine with the shakes until one day last week. I simply couldn't choke it down. I threw the last of it out. The thought of taking another sip was nauseating.

So, I'm experimenting and seeing how much Protein I can take in without them. Hopefully it will be enough, because I honestly don't think I can handle any more protein powder.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
