Hi there 😀

I am not sure if this is the right forum but here it goes !

I'm from Ireland and researching gastric bypass in Europe (lower cost - self pay) and Estonia has popped up on my radar.

I am hopeful here that someone has had surgery there - get the low down? Anyone had experience with Dr Ilmar Kaur?

thank you

MC

Hi, l am 10 days post op with Dr Ilmar Kaur and he is a wonderful surgeon. I did loads of reseach before my operation as l needed a revision rather than just straight forward bypass. Only two surgeons in UK do this procedure and at double the cost of Estonia. I met him pre-op for an endoscope exam (as on holiday in Riga). He gave me and my Husband great confidence and answered all my technical questions. All his team are lovely and can't do enough for you. English is spoken by all staff except the cleaner, but do you want towels is easy enough in any language. My scars are almost invisible just 10 days post surgery. 5*

You probably have had it, but on to others who may wonder - Dr Kaur usually use about 30min to an hour on each surgery.

I had mine with him in august. He's a fairly laid back fella. Always in a good mood ready to answer your questions.

My scars are next to nothing 6 weeks out. He stiches them internaly so the outside looks better - not all surgeons do that. The only concern I had was that one of my scars feelt like it wasr ripping me apart, a few days out. He forgot he had closed it with an extra stitch. I plukked it out with my naiilclippers and everything was 5 by 5 after that.

So my surgery anniversary date is on the 24th of this month, but I had my 1-year follow up early with my surgeon this morning (I have another 1-year followup at the hospital on Monday to get my bloodwork and labs done).
Anyhoo...my surgeon was very pleased with my results (and so where the office staff apparently, because 3 of the front desk ladies came by my exam room to give me props/high fives/generally gawk at me).
But get this: he asked if I would be willing to come in for a future photoshoot so that I could be on a poster! And I was all, ummmm....no thanks, LOL.

Today was a really tough day and I turned to food (and a watered down glass of wine). The interesting part was that I felt REALLY full after eating half my go to cheat snack, tortilla chips with cheese. So the GBP is doing its job!

The only way I can tell that I'm losing weight is from the scale and my clothes "getting bigger".
